Debt

This is a salutary story: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-south-east-wales-31880315

It doesn't seem to be a very level playing field for other counties if this happens

Seems to be fashionable these days, run up a big debt and then plead poverty.

This is not unusal - and why there's suddenly so much interest in Franchises. ECB really screwed up a decade ago: short term money bringing long term debt.  Kent had to sell their ground back to the KCC and we all know what's keeping Yorkshire afloat. The likes of Durham and Glamorgan basically only were able to get Test status because they got 'regional aid'.

I wondered whether ECCC realised this themselves at the time: hence they didn't go too fast with the ground redevelopments - or whether that was crediting East et al with too much intelligence... However, ECCC's problems predate 2005.

Sadly, rather than meaning we've avoided the problems of these more profilgate clubs, the latter may end up consigning ECCC to non-first class status.

However, I don't know whether Danny & Marketing have seen what LCCC are doing to drum up some support...

Essex already contacts “members" who haven’t re-signed to find out the reasons. Inability to attend through illnes or worse is usually the reason, apparently.

Having thought about it the real temerity of this is the expectation that over £4m of public money will be written off. Shocking at a time when local govt budgets have been cut so much

Ahhh, but Lanky get their players to drum up support.  Just imagine a call at 2:30am from Monty asking if you'd want to take up the opportunity of taking out membership again this year...

In polite terms would that be classed as extracting the urine?

Don't know.  Certainly he would 'be your best mate'. Be careful if he asks you whether you like heights.

I'd hope Larry himself would phone you up.  Especially if it were recorded.  :P

PPI chancers would be more welcome than him blathering on about the Championship being a priority when IPL commitments allow.

If only PPI stood for Poor Performance Insurance, you might be able to make a claim on that.

Trouble is one man's poor performance is another man's coaching gig for life.

I see Cardiff council have now written off £4m. Maybe we should tap up Chelmsford City council for the new pavilion? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-south-east-wales-31964175
