Bar fernandes 1st inngs knock which looked good, the Essex standard looks incredibly poor, even Jones.

What on earth is going on with our pathways.

Who is in charge.

I believe Barry Hyam is running the 2XI.

BTW Nick Browne doesn't appear to have spent the close season getting fitter.

Hyams been behind the scenes for yonks didn't realise he ran 2nd xi now,  nothing player and a nothing developer of talent it appears, thanks for your service good bye. Take Huggins with you.

We have one of the biggest pools of talent in the country yet we have zilch coming through if that's not sackable I don't know what is.

Hyam runs it with Mark Pettini  assisting him.  Apart from Fernandes, and  possibly  Mckenzie Jones,  there are few pushing for the first team.Richards and Das may be OK in one dayers but not in red ball

It is quite embarrassing. The only first class county in a region of six million people. The run of East London and East Anglia alongside Essex and they can't produce a single quality prospect. It's been seven years since Sam Cook broke through!

Do they actually go out and do any scouting aside from giving the cricket department of all the rich private schools in the region a ring every six months?

Is the talent identification abilities of the scouts we employ not good enough?

Or is this solely a coaching issue and any young talent inside the academy start regressing once our coaches get to work?

Is it a coincidence that the two best bowlers that have started their professional careers with us had either Nat (Cook) or came through the MCC (Porter)?

In other words...proper coaching.

This isn't a worthy statement, we have 3 players under 21 (not sure about Das) currently playing in the Firsts today, Richards and Benkenstein playing in what is the next step from u19s against Zimbabwe, has any other County in the country got this amount of players doing the same at these levels?

What would be a more worthy statement is to look and see once they get to this level, how many progress, become capped and emulate Sam Cook.

The next 3 cabs on the rank are Fernandes, Ali Zeb and Reuben Thain, so that is a pathway that is producing talent.

It isn't.  It's basically a collection of players unwanted this week by the 18 county teams in order to cobble some kind of opposition together to give Zimbabwe a warm up match.

Rubbish.

Appreciate you are possibly in with some of those being criticised, but if they provide dross to the first team and they play as no one else given the small squad size, does that meas it's a successful pathway? I'm not saying those players are dross just hypothetical speaking.

Look at the readymade impactful youngsters others produce. Sussex for starters let alone Somerset (who have a comparable talent pool to us).

As you are a qualified coach within the cricketing world, then I bow to your superior knowledge, without a circus this forum would not exist.

One or possibly Two of the names that you knock will make it either here or somewhere else and if you understand the coaching path you will realise that the Pathway is working, its when they don't develop in the first team, that's where it falls over, which is ultimately the individual coaches fault.

At present we have more players coming through than ever before, we are lucky as we have no money to throwaway, look at Lancashire and then throw bricks!

Who are these players I'm knocking and who are all these talents coming through?

Of course I'm not a qualified coach but qualifications in many roles are box ticks. Do a course get a certificate.

Everyone seems to think the cupboard is bare despite our huge catchment, so who are these talents the pathway is churning out, making instant impacts in country cricket like sussexs or Somerset's?
