It seems to me that batting has been an issue for us ever since T20 was first dreamed up. The occasional spectacular innings (Napier, Delport, Chopra) but mostly we've been a bit below par, usually relying on 30s and 40s rather than major innings. Even when we won the comp in 2019, our batting was just about good enough rather than truly dominant. When you scroll through the scores from other counties, there generally seems to be someone who has scored something like 80 off 35 balls, and not always overseas stars either - often it's middling county players who have worked out how to play this format, in a way very few of our guys ever have. In recent times, Pepper appears to be the only one who's worked out how to go about it. Which is odd, since there are, at least in theory, much more accomplished players than him in our line-up.
There's also the need to adapt to the match situation - yesterday's chase didn't actually need big-hitting firepower, but it did need players to keep their heads and not keep holing out going for glory.
Dunno.. am I being unfair? Would supporters of other counties say the same about their teams?
