Terrific and very spirited win indeed with telling contributions from so many players. A real team effort.
However can some clever board member please tell me why Westley not only did not bat, but was placed below Harmer and Beard.
Makes no sense to me at all.
I know Westley has struggled this season, and indeed last season but he is still a decent batsman able to put away bad balls and even some good ones.
Can’t help feeling Essex have got their batting order wrong.
It has already been stated a few games back, that Westley should open and with the field up, should
pierce with well placed shots.
He should open with Khushi. Rossington has been a big disappointment and for whatever reason, has not played a sufficiently long aggressive innings, one of the main reasons why he was targeted.
Would he not be better suited to bat at 5 or 6, where he could take advantage of medium pacers or spin to exploit his raw power. As an opener he is not working.
Although brief, Pepper’s innings was explosive. His ramp shots for six, would have made even Joss Butler envious. Clearly a talent.
There is a very thin line between positivity and recklessness as Narine typically and cleverly exploited dismissing both Khushi and Pepper through rash and naive shots within three balls. I hope their dismissals will prove a learning curve.
Can anyone truly believe our position in this campaign, considering our dismal performances last year?.
Not qualified yet, don’t know tonight’s results, but this is a mighty step forward and will fill the lads’ hearts with renewed confidence. They seem to be peaking at the right time.
