Presumably the marquee housing the members restaurant will now move into the gap beside the pavilion? No obvious logic to it all, besides adding 100 seats for T20. Or is it one small step in the redevelopment? The club has been awfully quiet on this front - the last press release was almost 6 months ago.
With current scrutiny placed upon over development on flood plains and next to rivers, it may be that Essex CCC's contribution to the later may be revisited by local and national planning authorities and agencies. The Club redevelopment was another in a long line of ill conceived, poorly thought through schemes, that were concocted by that cosy little club masquerading as the Cricket Committee, to provide, in this instance, a lasting legacy- (vanity project)- to the tenure of a certain D. East.
I would also suggest that for a Club that brags and seemingly publicises the slightest little thing, the silence on this is deafening!
My guess is the 3 prosaic tower blocks on the former car park will probably be constructed, then the redevelopment will cease. The County Ground will limp on in much its current form....much like the Club itself.
