Parking and Security.

For the third game running now I have failed to get into the Meteor Way car park despite arriving 40 minutes or more before the start of the game. Yesterday was a disaster with dozens of cars caught in a log jam stretching out into the main road for a considerable distance in both directions causing chaos. Would it be asking too much for a steward to stand at the top of Meteor Way when the car park nears capacity to signal to cars not to proceed or limit the number of cars turning into Meteor Way to the likely number of spaces remaining?

I am still bemused by the level of security imposed in matches of this sort. I went to the Oval last week and nobody asked to search my bag and the stewards were the usual Surrey personnel. Yesterday I witnessed the ridiculous sight of of five security men protecting the square from the groundsmen and his two and three year old playing on the outfield along with a couple of other toddlers. How much does all this cost and why do we need it? Naturally when the drunks in the hospitality areas started voluably cussing and accosting the fielders nobody did anything about it !

Presume parking was more limited than usually due to Sky TV presence . Stewards down Meteor way are always polite and very efficient in parking members up.
Has members are now asked to retain previous years membership cards, how do the stewards know which are valid without scanning ?

It occurred to me yesterday that it was quite acceptable for there to be drunken behavior and shouting of the players from the hospitality areas - if I shouted like that from the pavilion would I have been rejected! I think we know the answer.

Re membership cards - you are right - how do they know at Meter Way who is current or not is a puzzlement.

They were letting Lancashire members in during the first match. They did not have any members identification as their badges hadn't arrived.

No need for the over the top "security" at these games, often find before play and during intervals that  a steward will stand by the boundary boards looking into the "crowd" of perhaps half a dozen mature folks while sternly scanning for any crazed pitch invaders. Ludicrous.

When I say 'letting them in' I mean both into Meteor Way and the members enclosures in the ground. None of them I spoke to had proof of membership ...

Seriously, you make good points regarding Meteor Way. I think security is always "enhanced"  (just like the scoreboard?) when the match is live on Sky.

I don't like Murdoch and I don't like how much they pay to the most overhyped and overrated sport, football, making my subs higher than they should be, but one good thing about them is that on Wednesday, having watched our innings at the ground in warm sunshine, I was able to go home and watch the rest of the game in comfort instead of shivering in the cold for the Sussex innings, you can tell how cold it was as a Sussex player had a hot water bottle!

There were two interlopers into the River Stand today. Luckily they did not stay long and the game was well advanced when they arrived so they could not have caused that great an amount of damage.

They may have found their way from hospitality. Does the club note down the behaviour of some of the corporate guests and who they represent?

sounds like the club's target audience. I'd say they interloped from a T20 match but it would cause offence.

ok. First, not ill informed because I witness problems at these games, second, unless you're a loud mouth lout  I'm not talking about you. Fact : Loutish behaviour exists at T20, it's a shame , both T20 and the behaviour isn't going away but neither am I so please stop being offended on behalf of drunks and f**kwits.
