I hope the coaches/managers get stuck in to our batsmen. Breezy 30s/40s won't get you into the 1st XI.

Probably turned up at Billericay  wondering where the teams were. Switched to Somerset without  informing members. Typical shoddy administration,  typified  by the usual late production  of the Year Book.

Late production of the year book now the norm. It wouldn't have happened in Mr Edwards' day.

Possibly with accommodation pre booked and Championship game finished early chance, opportunity arose .

Couldn't agree more, provide a reason, let the public know and why couldn't it have been moved to Chelmsford?

A certain Mr Jack Leach is captaining Somerset.

At least Benny-boy is batting properly. We *must* keep him onboard.

I think the counties are consciously driving 2XI cricket to extinction. There can still be value in playing 2XI 4-day matches but they should be regionalised to do away with overnight stays. A senior pro should captain (as used to be the case) and it should be 11-a-side with no parachuting in/out of players.

Essex could play K*nt, Middx, Slurry and/or perhaps join the Minor Counties 4-day leagues. Play home/away to give c. 12-14 matches through the season.

Indeed there is a small number, but a number nevertheless, of people who attend these matches (not necessarily members, they can be people who will just watch a match anywhere or are cricketing ground hoppers).

It is easy for clubs to be dismissive of these or even think of them as cranks, but the amount of money many put back into the wider economy through regularly attending cricket even if it is free to watch (travel, buying food and drink, in some cases even overnight stays) must be greater than the total spend of someone who just goes to one day of Test cricket a year. I know of at least one person who racks up around 100 days a season.

Plus it is enthusiasts such as them that also support the game by buying things such as the Cricket Paper, the Second XI Annual, unusual cricket books published by Pitch Publishing and so on.

You don't expect the 'nil marks' employed at ECCC to recognise that do you?!

The high summer mini festivals at Halstead and (especially) Coggeshall were very well supported. I estimate about 500 people would be at the white ball day at Coggeshall. The club missed a trick in dropping those venues.

I'm sure he and the coaches won't be fooled by his stats. Some real filth amongst those wickets.
