He's been called up to the Lions squad for the last couple of matches.  I suspect he's been called up mainly because he's already over in Australia playing club cricket but still it's good for him.

Good for him and well deserved. My agent fees are growing.

Should offset the outstanding, erm payments to Mrs Chef Jnr?

They've got to catch me first. I fly under the institutional radar, not on any government databases. Love 'em and leave 'em.

Don't suppose that you've got a decent top order bat hidden away somewhere, Nat?

Well funny you should ask. I do have terrific 'proper' batsman/slow left arm bowler who has been laid up for a couple of years but is due to play again this year.

All entirely coached by me so very technically correct. Seemed to get his highest scores when I umpired his matches. Must be entirely coincidental.

Let me know if there's an offer on the table. I'm his agent as well.

Coach, umpire and agent. Is there no end to your talents? Has Dominic Cummings contacted you yet?

'Not fast enough' they said.
"Won't take wickets on flat Aussie pitches" they said
"Won't get good batsmen out" they said

Meanwhile...

You do realise that his deliberate omission from the national side has resulted in a handful of trophies instead of struggling to stay in CC D1?  Frankly, I would prefer to ban him from ever playing for any other side: franchise or international. Not that I put club before country, but he would be misused under this current England regime.

Of course his biological father may want an extension on his property?

I've got plenty of offspring who could do a job for Essex.

It's worth noting that according to Cricket Archive Sam's first class career bowling average up to the end of 2024 was 18.25, which is better than any Essex bowler since Ken Farnes (19.307) in the 1930s. Must be all that extra coaching from Dad......

19.57 on cricinfo, but still excellent.  Farnes was rarely  able to play a full season due to his teaching commitments and his career tragically ended by that second local difficulty.

They're warm up matches against a Cricket Australia XI, which is basically players that aren't good enough to get into Big Bash squads.   The match against Australia A is in 5 days time.  We'll see how he does then.
