Mog, you seem to forget one thing. The owners are in such a tissy to demonstrate 'legacy' they (or is it the local taxpayer?) would probably pay most of the costs. Of course, there's still the potential for another Sugababes reunion.

That tells us that msrs; Gooch, Cook and the the 'great' Irani are in favour - what a revelation! As they are either employed by or ex-players of ECCC, they would be, wouldn't they?!
It also tells us that the article author; Liam Morgan (a junior reporter) has been to the Sunday Times paywall for his info. Most of this is assumption, or 'according to Derek Bowden'. Again, after his lacklustre track-record to date, DB is trying to justify his inflated salary.

As I stated, the reality is that the Club will have to fund the venue hire, and associated costs, minus the drop-in pitch. In my humble opinion they will not pull it off - it's economically unviable without a whacking big subsidy which Essex will not be beneficiaries of.

I disagree. I don't like the idea but I'm sure it will be profitable.
