i appreciate that the bowling was not up to their usual standard and the pitch was good, but all the same, he made hitting 4's and 6's seem boring it was that good a display of batting.

Please don't compare Stokes to IB, let him develop as his own man, great match winning innings (hopefully), really pleased for Jonny Bairstow as well, whatever Buttler can do in 1 day cricket JB is a much, much better Test batsman & today should do his confidence a power of good.

I had hoped that after Flintoff the 'Next Botham' tag would've have been put to rest. Still, the one thing both IB and BS share is the tendency for 'things to happen' whenever they're involved - good or not so good.

Perhaps more importantly everyone has forgotten that Saffer who played for us up until 2014: you know, the one with the tattoos, forget his name...

Will move it on then, schoolboy cricketer in India has just scored 1,002 not out , 323 balls , 129 x 4, 59 x 6 , strike rate over 300 plus , over two days .
 Stokesesque  already now redundant.

Indian schoolboy cricket? Frankly this is a joke story that should never be mentioned in the cricket media. I once scored a rapid 50 in an after hours match in which the opening bowler was a Greek Economic student who'd never played cricket before and insisted on throwing the ball at my head from half way down the wicket. Excellent practice for facing Mitchell Johnson. Incidentally.

Does seem a little bizarre, although to be fair the previous highest was a college / school game over a century ago . Presume garden or beach scores are invalid !

Imagine how small the boundaries must have been to score at that rate, especially a schoolboy.

Mind you they did bowl the opposition out twice for less than 50 to win by an innings and a 1000+!!!

Thought we might have ditched the "next Botham" tag after Flintoff as well, lazy journos I guess. Hope Stokes is his own man as Botham, despite his cricket skill was and is a boorish, ignorant who has a habit of riding roughshod over more intelligent people all in the name of "having a bit of fun" . come to think of it with Flintoffs antics and Stokes sent home from the lions tour and the locker incident it seems good all rounders are all a bit lacking upstairs. Incidentally, how long before Stokes is lost to the IPL ?

Madame firehazard tells the tale of the day her elder brother scored over 3,000 runs against her bowling in the garden.
This is one of the reasons she's hated cricket ever since...

He's under a central contract.  The ECB decide how much of the IPL he would play.  He can make decent money without having to play it.  It's only Pietersen of the regular England Test team that has seemed that bothered over the IPL.

He's not in the Test Team and isn't likely to be for a while.  I think the England management are encouraging him to play IPL to help improve the England limited overs teams like they are with Rashid and Willey playing Big Bash.
