Same old, same old then.

Sigh.

Not at all. If you look at the team's performance, the 1930s were a good decade under the shared captaincy. We finished as high as our first season in the cc four decades before, and before the era of immediate registrations, a very rural county like Essex could never over turn the highly populated, and richer, northern/London clubs.

However, the disaster that was the earlier Whizz Morris reign is a portent - numerous times the skipper would phone up on the morning of a match unable to play because of work commitments.

There are pictures appearing, in the last day or two, on social media of Irani and Gooch checking out the olympic stadium, is this a sign that we are fast approaching a game there?

Playing cricket at the OS is a ridiculous idea.

Full steam ahead then.

Why wouldn't you want to play in front of crowds over 20,000? If the cost of hiring and I don't know how the profits from food and drink sales would work but assume we'd get at least a proportion of it then it really ought to be a no brainer.

Last season a member took the time to look up the dimensions of an athletics track, the width is not that great.

Its another super duper six over long on. The batsman was only pushing for a single

Well, we get complaints when we stop playing at tiny out grounds, so why the complaint at a serious attempt to get back into the east London market?

It's ridiculous because who wants to watch cricket (even T20) with the aid of binoculars.

One of the attractions of watching Essex over the years has been that you sit close to the action. Never liked going to watch Essex at test grounds even with a decent crowd although a Lords final with a full house was bearable. One of the many faults with Barren Park was that it never felt like an Essex ground. The Olympic Stadium thing is just another way for our bloated administration to try to justify it's existence. Only way it could make any money for Essex would be having it on even friendlier terms than Sullivan's crew got.

Had a good afternoon at the Rugby League test at Stratford today. I guess it would be just about big enough if you could play over the athletics track but not sure how that would work.

At the end of the day I suspect it will all be down to £sd.

Did you need binoculars Slogger?

I've been to a couple of events there and not needed them.

Hi all,

I've just found that I can login to the forum again! I've been away from the forum for a couple of months when I foolishly tried to change my password shortly after Eastsax passed away.

Anyway I'm back online and will catch up with all posts since August.
