Big Tyson for me. Clare Balding presenting the trophy to TF would be TV gold.

Nah, the follow up edition of 'snog, marry, avoid' would be, though!

I wouldn't like to bet on who would come out on top in a 12 round fight between these two icons of our times...

I know who has got the bigger chin!

Beat Tyson Fury though. And there's not a lot of people who can say that!
It's all tongue in cheek, though.  ;)

He scrubs up well also - doesn't he Nat?  ;)
...and so does Eddie Izzard.

Saw a stat in the Daily Mail that said that Cook & Root scored 44% of England's Test runs this year, says it all really & yet incredibly, neither of them & Root in particular, got into the final 12 for SPOTY.
What does a cricketer have to do to get a nomination?

Root certainly should have been in the 12 and arguably Broad for his Ashes winning spell at Trent Bridge. Realistically a cricketer will only win in if they do something really outstanding in the Ashes.

I suspect there's some sort of backroom deal whereby only someone whose sport is only on pay TV, and who doesn't make outrageous comments, can be nominated!

When were either Cook or Root ..... who seems like a chirpy lad ..... last interviewed on BBC?

Let's face it, the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award (I refuse to use the dumbed-down acronym), is now a long way from the august, black tie ceremony of yesteryear and now seems to be bound by agenda, political correctness and a deep-held resentment of the fact it is close to losing just about every major sporting event on the calendar. Cricket's omission this year is an outrage.

It would be if anyone cared.

Other than the northerners who voted en masse for Kevin Sinfield.

I do not have that much interest in SPOTY as I have wondered about how the votes are counted. Funny that the BBC have never responded to criticism by involving the Electoral Reform Society or independent observers.

Some years ago Muhammad Ali was presented with the overseas personality award and looked at the trophy and said, "there is no name on it. Did you only decide at the last minute I was going to win".

When the ceremony was at BBC TV Centre, after the ceremony was over a guest from Rugby Union got himself arrested. He tried to make with a Charity collecting box from the foyer as a drunken prank.

Root was on radio 5 live talking about the Ashes win last night!about an hours worth of material.

Agree though, media coverage of cricket is woeful. Have you ever wondered why Sky Sports news give about five minutes to the cricket (on a good day) yet can have other 30 minutes on football

Note that before the second test in South Africa ,  Captain Cook has now won 18 out of 42 tests as England captain , the same amount of wins has Mike Brearly in31 tests . His calender year 2015 in 14 tests brought him 1,384 runs with a highest score of 263 .

3 low scores so far against South Africa, but he was to an outstanding catch today.
