Closure of the river stand

Could we have a club statement on the above.

It appears that after 35 years with very few problems, the players now want the River stand closed for LVCC matches. The club and umpires have now acquiesced to Jaik Mickleburgh's  demand and about 50 members were thrown out of the stand.

We are not very happy!!!!!

I bet they don't close it for a T/20 game when they want to cram as many as possible into the ground.

If someone did not leave their large box blocking the aisle every game, then getting up would not be a problem. I bet he took being asked to vacate very well. Ha Ha.

I have to say I am appalled that so many members move inappropriately, at the wrong time of the over and this undoubtedly upsets the batsmen and his concentration. Bearing in mind most of the championship matches are played that Pavilion side of the square, and often in line with the River Stand.

It wouldn't affect T20 matches as those pitches are often on the batsmen friendly wickets on the older part of the square further away from the River Stand and not in line.

I must say the worst place in the country for people moving at the wrong time is undoubtedly The Oval who are most inconsiderate indeed.

With so much available seating at Chelmsford and especially in the adjacent stands I feel somewhat supportive of this move.  They always close the seating at Worcester, Northampton, and many other grounds when there is seating behind the arm.

I always thought that the members in the River stand were very well behaved. Once when Lancashire were the visitors, Barry Wood sat up there. He was asked about movement behind the bowlers arm. The answer was someone moving slightly to get something out of their bag was not a problem. Someone getting up and down and walking around would be a problem however.

The club want to knock it down as part of the redevelopment so ethnically cleansing it beforehand is in their interests.

Saying that Mickleburgh will be long retired by the time they get round to it.
