I see that after the series success against NZ the calls for the necessity of introducing 20:20 franchise cricket have been stilled for the time being. It's amazing that when England have done well in any format over the last few years it has, apparently, had nothing to do with county set up but when it goes badly it is course necessary to change the county game from top to bottom and get rid of some counties ( copyright R.Willis,M.Atherton and D.Topley).

Our World Cup seems almost entirely due in retrospect to inept selection and equally inept coaching and strategy. alternatively it could have been because Leicestershire and Derbyshire dare to exist.

We batted very well but when most people are taking about England beating the World cup runners up they ignore the fact that the New Zealand attack we faced was very inexperienced and very different from the one used at the World Cup.  Their bowling looked very ordinary and I wonder how this team will get on against even hal;f decent attacks.

Australia excepted there aren't any. Therein lies the problem with cricket at the mo.

Whatever our 'real' level of performance franchise cricket was never the answer for English cricket. These ex cricketers calling for it either are too stupid to realise that the county game isn't as packed as it used to be (besides few of the top players play much during the season) or they think it'll be good to suck up to Graves and Sky.

With calls for domestic change including a reduction in the championship is there an argument for scrapping the 50 over domestic competition to give the players the reduced number of fixtures that they deem so necessary. International one day cricket is played at t20 pace (even tests are played that way at times) so do we need our half hearted 50 over comp cluttering the schedules?

agree with you, pampered cricketers should get a dose of reality but the talk is of a reduced championship and I'd rather lose the inadequately structured 50 over comp than have first class cricket cut back for the sake of t20 and precious pros.
