Although I plead guilty to all the above events, which were corrected very quickly with the possible exception of the Westley/Cook over, I cannot understand how you, and others, feel that you can comment on events when you cannot possibly have any idea what was happening when I made those mistakes or the circumstances which caused them...Please show a little patience and understanding.

I'm afraid you're not going to get much sympathy on here, however much it's justified...how about letting one of the great and good help press a few buttons? They might share their Kit Kat  ;)
Thanks Andy - you have proved my point!

Perhaps a family pack of Doritos might entice a helper/apprentice?

Whatever, it does suggest that aztec has too much to do.

Fair points, you do a fine job under the circumstances, maybe a helper or two need to be around for when things get extra busy.To put into perspective, at 1 day games especially T20 I suspect many of us would appreciate your calming voice as the Announcer doesn't seem to put accuracy & being on the ball too highly.

If the club would pay me I'd be happy to assist.

Noticed more problems yesterday when Westley bowled his token over the S/B showed it as Cook, once when Harmer was bowling the runs, balls etc were put up under Porter, also the wrong fielder was read out for one of the catches although that is sometimes an easy mistake to make.
More today than yesterday but again overs often completed too late on the S/B, good innovation to show the balls faced for each batsman.

I do my best to keep the board up-to-date but if the Umpires or Office Staff radio me at the end of an over or a telephone rings then delays in the completion of an over on the board will probably occur - trying to deal with both at the same time doesn't always work. Please show a little patience and understanding.
we are simple cricket watchers. Some of us to to other grounds and see scoreboards that are up with the play, we wonder if we could have something similar not two years after its installed but as soon as it's operational. We compare and find our board wanting. Can this problem be remedied or should it be filed under, "Essex amateur organisational skills". Nothing personal, people expect a standard which comes with being a business and charging admission. If this were an amateur club run by volunteers at the weekend we would accept the limitations.

I note the bit about the ‘phone. Why not have a display system which translates phone calls to written messages (sure I’ve seen one somewhere!).

Answering the phone (etc), apart from the umpires surely isn’t something Aztec shoud have to do!

One of the problems is that you don't think it's a problem  !!!

The scoreboard is something you attend to when all the "more important" things are done. This is only your fault insomuch that you seem to accept the situation.

How do other counties manage? Presumably they have someone whose main role is to keep the scoreboard right up to date and accurate?

As stated before, it has been somewhat better of late but still too many lapses.

My only criticism directly aimed at Aztec would be that as a high class scorer I would  have expected him to be passionate about getting the score across to his fellow cricket fans in a timely manner. Instead we get 'show a little patience', sorry, not when a tardy scoreboard has messed up my scorecard >:(
Totally understand the fact about other tasks but  this is exactly the point we are all making. Surely the club could employ a scoreboard operator for a relatively low wage, most of us would jump at the chance to earn some pocket money while watching the game we love.
This is probably only area where the club can be criticised in 2017, I have a feeling it will be resolved soon under this latest leadership team.

I'm a qualified scorer and know how much there is to do. I often have to score the match on my own not knowing the opposition players at all. I get people to help with the scoreboard as it's too much when wickets fall or a new [unknown] bowler starts to bowl.

I've scored at quite a high level at grounds where 1st class has been played [e.g. Milton Keynes, old Hastings ground] and have always been given assistance with a scoreboard. It's vital that the score is accurate both on paper [or laptop] and on the scoreboard.

Perhaps if he stopped trying to scare us with his constant pleas for us to take all our belonging with us whenever we go for a pee...

It's not only the fans, of course, who need the scoreboard. The players do.

Indeed, especially in a limited overs matches or near to bonus points. The umpires are supposed to check what is displayed as well.

There you go. Has to be a solution somewhere here, especially if a few could rotate as Aztec's 'right-hand'. Either that or the club might look for an 'apprentice' - it's the sort of job small boys used to do (and frankly sounds like the average 11 year old 'nerd' could be very useful).
