Ashley Giles

I see Ashley Giles must have changed his views after signing Alviro Petersen to add to Ashwell Prince, who he persuaded to play on for another year after he originally decided to retire,  and Kyle Jarvis.

To be fair, didn't they change the rules to cut down on Kolpacs? Also, with the rise of the IPL/BBL etc there are fewer Kolpacs available - at least for more than a month or so. I'll have to ask him.

hmm lancs dont seem to be blessed with batsmen at the moment so alviro will be useful perhaps at 3 (i dont rate him as an opener ) perhaps ashwell being there will motivate him. giles will be under pressure to keep lancs up this year so i guess he will do what it takes, in the future there maybe some 2nd div player snatching. As an example Thakor springs to mind; who i guess moved to derby to turn himself into an allrounder (under the excellent tutelage of Graeme Welch). 2-3 years down the line he will be ready for lancs and maybe england. I guess there is  only  limited  oppurtuity  to cream off talent, i think thats why hants & slurrey did what they did! As for kyle is he really any better than a county bowler!

Giles will be under pressure to get Lancs up not keep them up (they are in LVCC2 this Summer NOT LVCC1 ).
I do agree though that gradually more & more of the best Div 2 players will be creamed off to Div 1 especially if the likes of Sorry get there & throw money at everything like they do now.

APOLOGIES lancs is quite a yo-yo club at the moment cant keep up having alviro will be more useful in div 2.  England do pay for clubs who develop eng players but a one off payment if a player switchs to a higher division seems reasonable to help a county cope.
