A tale of 2 Chairman
« on: October 01, 2014, 03:48:08 PM »
The Middx chairman has just announced a review of cricket operations due to failure on all fronts.

The only thing our esteemed chairman probably reviews is the wines in Giles Clarke's cellar.

Compared to us their season was a failure.

Bottom of T20 with 2 wins out of 14, 3rd bottom of one day with 3 wins out of 8 and avoided relegation by the skin of their teeth with 4 wins out of 16.

Imagine the bile that you would be spewing if that was Essex's record.

The relevance of this assertion is? If you re-read the original point was that a poor season has led to strong and candid words from their Chairman.

Not unlike the Yorks Chairman a couple of seasons ago after the team underachieving - before they brought in a new coach and suddenly started winning again.

Do you see my point...

Tickle doesn't see any point unless it exonerates Grayson of blame.

Tickle and some others don't see this season as a failure so therefore they see no need for a review.

An entirely logical view. The wrong one but entirely logical.

There should be a review at the end of each season, successful or otherwise. Sitting back and saying "how clever we are" is as silly as saying "we're all doomed". There are always negatives to be considered in success, as well as positives in poor seasons.

After all, when we do win the Championship and one of the one-daters VP will be  there to point out that we missed out on the other one-dayer!

Ho, Ho

I don't think my demand to spend the occasional season in Div 1 is unreasonable.

Exactly.

At least I don't continually big up failure.

The way you carry on you would think Essex were a roaring success in all formats.

Okay then I'd be interested to know what constitutes failure in tickle's eyes?

Any sensible business would hold an end of year review; it's good practice.

My main concern is why we failed so miserably in the two QFs to the same team twice ...

Could it be simply that they are better than us?

I would always advocate a performance review at the end of each season.
