Whilst Twitter is used by many social media-ites to post all manner of inane stuff, it is a very useful and effective tool for disseminating information.

Essex CC club describes its official Twitter feed thus: "Follow us to receive breaking news, all important ticket news, player gossip and match updates" This I would expect to include the rather important prospects of play.

Today, after yesterday's torrential rain on a notoriously poorly draining outfield, there was obviously some concern as to whether the ground would be okay for a timely start. Twitter announced somewhat tritely, "Good news, it's not as wet as yesterday" at about 7:30 am and there was not a single update subsequent to that until play had actually commenced. Rather poor, I'm afraid.
