Members charged for Parking.
« on: July 04, 2014, 01:36:14 PM »
Members are to be charged £5 for parking at Colchester for the T/20 match against Kent.
Parking at Colchester has always been free to members, is this a sign of things to come in the future?

afternoon,

we introduced this small charge just for the T20 at Colchester. We have been imposed with a high charge for car park / traffic management. We all need and want to make the Colchester Festival financially viable. We have kept the free parking (first come, first served) for the LV= game.

With limited parking we are urging Members and public to make use of public transport. We are striving to add value to Membership in all ways possible, the small charge has been made to to help find the balance between that and making the festival more viable

thanks, Danny

Would suggest the current car parking space available to members at Colchester,  is the same has what is now available during development at the  ECG .
is this charge also applicable to blue card holders and committee members ?
For those coming by train, Colchester North / Main station , head towards town, turn left by the Albert Pub,  after crossing roundabout , towards fire station and take road that runs down by the side. Fifteen minute walk.

I agree we all want the Colchester Festival to remain viable.
I just hope the "traffic management"  includes a no right turn sign at the top of Catchpole Road - particularly on the Saturday.
People trying to turn right hold up the queue trying to leave the ground and it takes ages for them to get accross to lanes of traffic.
They can go left, up to the roundabout and swing back round, therefore keeping the queue from the ground moving.

I presumed the £5 would help cover the extra police charges for patrolling this park of late!

Due  to circumstances in the last couple of months / weeks more police around the area than at a Christmas Ball.

Much as we all don't want extra charges on top of the membership fee let's suck this one up and move on.

Glad I'm not going! It makes the £30, including travel, to go to the T20 double header at Lords in May with my lad, even better value. I shall be there on Sunday and Monday though.

So paying an extra £5 (between the two of you) stops you going to the game? Hope you'll be pleased when the Colchester festival is long gone.

If they charged a £5 at Garons everyone would have been up in arms! Agree with Slogger. To be honest would rather they just dumped Colchester and played at Chelmsford

Not that I've never been in a minority of one, nor even missed the cricket aesthetic on occasions  - but your stance probably takes the biscuit on all counts.

Chelmsford, where there's no parking so that solves the problem. Wouldn't mind paying  that amount for the convenient parking at Colchester.

The first quote was Sloggers - not mine.

Why should i want Essex to play at Colchester? I live in Southend and much prefer they play at Chelmsford as better, cheaper and nearer etc for me. Your from Colchester and you have vested interest and was involved in the Anti-Garons scandel on the official forum

I use Meteor Way which is free parking  and much prefer playing cricket at proper grounds than notorious parks like Castle Park!
