morning,

at this stage the figures are still to be audited so to speak, at this stage we are over the 1,000 mark of what we classify as 'full members'.

Cannot stress enough - we are hear to listen, we want to maintain and ideally grow the number of Members that we have. Your constructive feedback is vital.

Thanks in advance.

So there we have it. A thousand members paying, say, just £150,000 between. Barely a couple of executive salaries !! That figure could be matched or exceeded from a couple of T20 matches and people wonder why the club is so T20-centric !

What we really need is a bit of honesty and transparency.

Instead of stating that County Championship Cricket "is a priority", a statement along the lines of:

"County Championship Cricket is really a flawed business model and it matters not greatly where we finish in the league given that we can't go down and going up would bring a number of unwelcome challenges. Despite this we will do our best to be as competitive as possible in the longer game, bearing in mind we have a squad assembled primarily to excel in the one day (and shorter) format. Against this background, members should appreciate that occasionally things won't go too well and adverse records which have stood since the days of W G Grace may well be broken year on year. Also do not expect too many challenging and risky declarations in pursuit of winning points; we will at least be able to say we have lost less than half our games."

would more accurately reflect the situation but maybe wouldn't do so well on the marketing front.

superb post.  Absolutely spot on and very funny.

This number of 1000 is very scary to be honest.  I've had a number of jousts related to the ageing membership and it seems I'm very much correct if what Danny says is correct.  Which, if I'm honest, is a real shame.

My constant reminders that T20 is keeping us afloat as a club is now proven 100%.  again, a shame, but I've known this for the past 5 years, based on simple maths.  What I didn't realise is how little the Membership was bringing in.
I'd been doing the sums based on the mythical 6000 members, and it seems I was wildly wrong.

The bottom line then Danny, is that in order to attract new members, the membership cost has to go down mate.  For example, I've currently managed to see two days of LVCC cricket at the ECG, and there are no more days on a weekend this year!  If it wasn't for the 3 50 over(D/N) games, I actually wouldn't get to see anymore cricket at all (other than T20, which I will continue to support) without taking a day off work.  Now given I'm self employed, every day costs me....a fair few quid, and we'll leave it there.

I raise again my suggestion of a working members ticket. £50 per year giving pavilion entry/members enclosure privileges (!), but £5 per day entry to both 50 over and LVCC cricket.  a Members Season ticket to the T20 would also be a great idea, but I'm happy to continue to get reduced price tickets if not.

I know so many people who have stopped buying a membership, and therefore stopped attending (due to the daily cost of the tickets).  And these people would use the bars and food outlets.

We have to do something here....

Thanks for thoughts, cannot stress enough we need feedback on future membership packages

Worth remembering all other equally important categories, seniors, young adults, premier suite, corporate etc

Please do stop me at any game, phone, email or via here on ways we can attract, retain and regain members, of all ages

Thanks

Get out to all the local clubs around Chelmsford, Billericay, Shenfield, Brentwood etc. They must have large junior sections. Offer them subsidised junior membership (e.g. 10 for the price of 8) and special treatment on match days e.g. meet the players, coaching session with one of the first team.

How much exactly do you want the existing £10 per year junior membership subsidised?

Junior cricket players rarely come from the poorer sections of society and generally they can afford the tenner.

Aim instead to give the full paying members value for money.

Sorry Andy,

Not quite sure how pointing out that there is not scope for a great deal of subsidy on a membership of TWENTY PENCE A WEEK is in any way harming the future of professional cricket.

Aim instead to give the full paying members value for money.

That would involve fielding a four day side that was fit for purpose.

So no hope & Bob Hope.

Danny, many thanks for coming back and taking this on board, I would propose the following package would increase membership:

Working member package

£50 Membership ticket - allows access to pavilion and members seating on game days. Continues to offer reduced pricing at T20 matches. However, for LVCC/one day cup, a reduced price admission is payable, would need to be determined but not exceeding £8 per day.
working members that wish to continue on the current membership scheme are more than able.

Out of County Membership.

Current members travelling more than 50 miles to Chelmsford and having a registered postal address with the club should be offered a reduced price membership say £80.  New members wishing to take advantage of the reduced membership would need  to produce two forms of identification showing their current postal address.

There's a couple for starters. Hope this is of assistance mate. Happy to discuss at your convenience and will be over on Tuesday evening next week mate.

Andy

Good post Blocky. I think some sort of linkage with juniors in clubs would be good. And how about using some of the executive boxes which are usually unused in 4 day games as a members area with a pay bar?  By the way me and my non member pal were commenting on how splendid Castle Park was on Monday. A lovely day out. I wish I could have got to more of the festival - Danny could the club lobby to get it in the school holidays next year?

I like the idea of using the empty exec boxes in some way. I agree that Castle Park looked very good this year - the extra stands make it look like a proper ground. They need to allocate another game to Castle Park - 1-day or 4-day to cement its future.

Thanks for post. The schedule for this season made it impossible to host a one day / T20 Blast next to an LV= game

Thanks
