« on: May 30, 2026, 06:55:37 AM »
Due to the new regional set up with an extra home and away fixture, Derby come for the home fixture.
Unless injuries,  cannot alter a nine wicket win side .
  But let?s be wary .
Derby amassed 234 last fixture with 117 in seven overs at the start. Two sides with confident victories .

Ross Whiteley is also still dangerous in this format. Some years ago he tied with Chris Gayle for the most sixes in a Blast season - having said that he achieved the tally playing 16 games, while Gayle played just 3.

Unchanged squad. Almost certainly unchanged team.

Harmer, Akhter, Allison, Benkenstein, Bennett, Critchley, Das, Fernandes, Jones, Mulder, Pepper, Snater, Thain, Walter

174 to win, a bit more than expected after having been 74/5, but Essex *should* be favourites. Derbyshire have some decent bowlers though.

A good performance from all the bowlers, particularly Snater, Mulder and Akhter.

Another good bowling performance although it did feel like we had them on the ropes at 70-odd for 5 and let things slip a bit from there. Puzzled again by Harmer?s bowling choices - Mulder and Akhter were arguably the best bowlers today but both had overs unused, while there was no real need for Benkenstein to bowl at all. Still, 173 should be gettable.. should be.

Trying to give him experience of bowling in the thrashathon. There are much easier places to learn your craft than postage stamp Chelmo.

A finish that looked like, a benefit or pro celebrity game. When the crowd go home happy with the exciting end.

Have we stumbled on how to prepare winnable white ball hybrid wickets . Just play a double header, makes the hybrid wickets partly  worn, so just ruffed up enough despite a roll between matches to just take the true flatness off.
Finally the batters have contributed, makes such a difference.

It was a much better watch today.  Having something for the bowlers does make it a better spectacle.  Suits us a bit more as well I think.

I guess we should thank Andrew Flintoff or whoever decided to leave Allison out of the 2nd Lions match.  Doubtful we'd have won without him.
Incidently there are three 50 over matches between SA A and England lions to be played between 5th and 9th of June.  Not sure if they've named the squad yet but if not could easily see Cox or Allison playing in them.  Rehan Ahmed went straight from not playing in the IPL to playing for the Lions.

So much for taking more account of performances in county cricket!
