Life Members

When life members took out there membership, most probably though that Sunday League games would still be available, but I wonder how many thought they would NOT see Championship games being played in June and July .
Times do change and the competitions might change formats in some way, but now only seeing one day cricket in the middle of the summer and having to pay extra for the privilege, makes one wonder if life members are getting value for there investment, even now being ripped off.
Could clubs be taken to court for miss selling a product which has change from when life membership was bought ?

Nothing lasts for ever and life memberships are a punt.
Certainly don't regret mine.
Outstanding value.

When I became a Life Member we were promised free onsite parking.

I still think I've had my money's worth but did it to mark my support of the cub really especially as I now live outside Essex.

An interesting topic. I took out life membership in 2007. I worked out that with my expected retirement in 2021 that cricket in retirement would be free. I expected to be living in Essex or Suffolk. That has all worked out. T20 existed when I took it out, but there was 40 and 50 over cricket, 8 home championship matches and some years a tourist fixture. Festivals at Colchester and Southend in the summer holidays, to which I took my son. That structure has been swept away. I'm still young and fit enough to brave the weather in April and September but who knows in a few years. I've had value out of it but I wouldn't take it out now and possibly wouldn't take out annual membership.

Many of the changes are driven by the ECB who for general damage must rival the rugby league in a league table of incompetent administrators. The way the club treats its members has decayed since the untimely death of Mr Edwards 25 years ago. We now have a bunch of technocrats and ex players running the show who don't have much connection with those who pay to watch. The only exception being Mr Faragher in my experience.

I took out life membership in 2020 when the club were offering decent discounts to get themselves through lockdown. Only real change since then has been downgrade of 50 over cricket. So far I have no regrets at all.

With membership now at ?235 per year, I think I will be break even in the next couple of years. So I think the question is, with the cricket on offer would I be an annual member? My answer would be yes, hence no regrets on life membership.

If I had a minor grumble it would be the open ground policy, it used to feel a privilege of membership to have unrestricted ground access, now you basically get this on a day ticket.

The open ground policy would be OK if there were stewards protecting the Member-only areas but there aren't.

Several times I've had to find someone to eject non-members who were constantly standing up, making excessive noise, chucking litter, etc. in a red ball game.

Even entry to the pavilion is not monitored ...

When Meteor Way was invaded. The people concerned, just had to wait until 4 pm. When there was nobody stewarding and drive right in. The same with the County ground. As regards, interlopers. The Premier members complain about expecting to share more and more, with the Corporate guests.

The way membership is going, there will soon be plenty of room for everyone.

The club execs don't value members. They're chasing the corporate ?.
