When he had scored 2 Jordan Cox passed 3000 Career T20 runs (Including The Hundred). His 139* was also a personal Career and County best for T20 (Including The Hundred)

Jordan Cox (139*) and Simon Harmer (7*) equalled the best 7th wicket partnership against Hampshire with their 46*

Aztec will have to look that one up, in the corner of the scorer's room. Where it has been brushed under the Carpet.

Aztec,

Certainly in terms of League Position it has been the worst since 2016 (my starting point) with 2195 runs scored, 3 wins 10 losses and 1 N/R.
In 2018 we had 2 wins 8 losses 3 N/R and 1 Tie and scored 2045 runs finishing 7th.
Over those 10 seasons the lowest score has been 1744 in 2021 when we had 5 wins 8 losses and 1 N/R and also finished 7th.
The best season over those 10 years has been in 2023 when we scored 2808 runs with 8 wins and 6 losses and finishing 4th

By comparison the year that we won the Cup (and the Championship as well!) - 2019 - we scored 2080 runs (less than this year) with 5 wins 4 losses 4 N/Rs and 1 Tie finishing 4th in the Group!

Hope this answers your question to some degree - I'm just replacing the carpet in the corner of the scorebox!!

More 2025 Blast stats:

https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/vitality-blast-men-2025-1460753/stats

Things worth noting:

Batting - Cox was our only player to average over 30. Critchley averaged 13.

Bowling - Walter had the worst economy rate of any bowler, from any county, to take 7 wickets or more (Cricinfo's cut off for inclusion in the wicket-taking table)

Harmer took 11 wickets in 14 matches and his stats were very similar to Benkenstein's. Just not enough from him this year.

Other than Cox, the only player whose numbers aren't embarrassing is Amir, who was joint 10th in the wicket-takers list. However his woeful performances in the first 3 games helped set the miserable tone, I'd argue.

Nat's lad took 3 wickets in 7 matches at 72.33.  Room for improvement.

It has been a poor season, no doubt but using the term embarrassing to describe the players numbers other than Cox and Amir is a massive exaggeration.  Adam Rossington has been able to play T20 around the world with a career average of 20.79, SR 144.  Scores are a bit higher now but Pettini averaged 27, Ryder 24, Bopara 29, Foster 21 and Wheater 19 over their T20 careers at Essex.

Critchely and Allison were really poor with the bat.  Walter has been found out with the ball and Cook was a big disappointment in the games he did play bar the last one.

Critchley has had a poor T20 season, but Allison has shown signs of improvement after a bad start. I think with Allison, Benkenstein and Thain, they are finding their role in the team and with the more experience batsmen not performing, then it's been even more of a challenge. But I think they'll get there and with a new captain and a new overseas player (possibly an allrounder), then next season will be a big improvement.

And the ECB have really messed Essex around with Cook.

I understand that batting averages in this format cannot be compared with red-ball, and that anything over 30 is decent. I can't take that Rossington stat very seriously I'm afraid - doesn't it show that you can burgle a good living in this format rather than say anything about where we should set the bar. Of the other players you mention, Bopara's 29 is probably a bit below par for a player of his ability. I am surprised that Pettini averaged 27, fair play to him. Ryder's 24 should have been higher, but his compulsion to hit in the air limited his effectiveness.

Looking at current top order players this season we have Pepper averaging 28, Cox 38, Walter 23, Elgar 26, Benkenstein 19, Allison 15, Critchley 13. Maybe 'embarrassing' is a bit strong in some cases (though not in others) but I would maintain that Cox is the only one who really performed. Pepper averaged 45 in this tournament last year, so while 28 may be OK-ish it still represents a major falling off. Benkenstein's numbers are OK for where he bats, but I found him very frustrating to watch, felt he was often trying to be too clever with ramps, reverses and the like, usually missing the shot. He has time though.

Plus of course all this talk of averages misses the context e.g. Harmer averaged 17 this year, which is probably quite good for someone batting in the lower middle order, but that was largely thanks to his quickfire 50 in a game that was already over.

He was on the verge of an England call up before he took the captaincy.
