The future
« on: August 30, 2023, 08:16:05 AM »
Next year's T20 Blast could be played in a new group structure as the competition aims to remain relevant alongside The Hundred and the congested global cricket calendar.

How about playing Ireland, Scotland , Holland and West Indies ?

Or, make it a 20 ball competition !!!

I thought the Blast did just fine this year- the result of the final excepted. Unfortunately, the Hundred is not going away, although it will probably evolve into a standard T20 tournament with 2 more franchises and private ownership. But why not move it 2 weeks earlier to give proper cricket the middle to end of August.

But I don't think the Blast is the problem.

We should not accept The *undred as a done deal. If we do then it is the end of 18 full time professional counties.
No surrender.

There was talk earlier this season about the 16.4 not being very well attended, at least not the men's matches.  Is this still the case and, if so, do we know what Sky and the Beeb feel about that?

The propaganda units of Sky and the BBC have been in full swing throughout the circus. However I've seen many less than full grounds.

The Sky contract runs until 2028 but the BBC contract has ended I believe. The BBC and the ECB are currently in negotiations.

Next year's final will be in September - so there will be, I assume, a gap between the main tournm, ent and the final

The Oval has been well attended but Surrey make no secret that the Invincibles is them in disguise.

Middlesex to play two T20 games at Chelmsford . Essex members pay if they want to attend .

Here is the blurb .

The players and coaching group welcome the opportunity to play at the best grounds they can when Lord?s is unavailable for Middlesex fixtures.

As a first-class venue, with a high standard of facilities, Chelmsford provides the best option available for these dates.

Are Middlesex paying Essex a fee to host these two matches?

Put simply ? no.

Both Essex and Middlesex will pay 50% of the operational costs of the matches, which are approximately half what it would cost us to set up an out-ground at a club venue.

What potential revenue will Middlesex receive from these matches?

There are two main areas that Middlesex can benefit financially from playing at Chelmsford:

- Middlesex will receive a share of the gate revenue from each match.

- Middlesex will receive a share of the hospitality revenue for each match.

What is the financial upside of us playing these games at Chelmsford?

Essentially, playing at Chelmsford instead of an out-ground club ground already saves the Club a significant sum on the costs of setting up the game.

When potential revenue from gate receipts and hospitality are factored in, the Club stands to potentially be making a financial upturn of six figures plus.
