Anyone else noticed that the standard of discipline and etiquette in the Pavilion/members area has taken a real downward turn? 

Clearly there were a lot of people who were in there for the Sri Lanka game who were not members.  People are standing up in front of others that have clearly been seated for a long time.  There are people outside the front of the pavilion wandering across the front of the glass doors, obscuring the views of those inside.  Lastly, at which point did we all start walking about in the middle of the over.  I was taught never to move until the end of each over, and still do this.

Last night a group of men, aged mid 50's upwards were wandering about, very pissed, with glasses, outside the pavilion.

When will Essex CCC be making an effort to resolve this behaviour?  Do we need a proper Members steward inside the pavilion area?  Danny.....can you have a look at this mate?  I'm even happy to volunteer if required, and I assume its likely to be limited overs matches that this is an issue.  (I've got an SIA Close protection card so fully qualified).

I know I'm a bit boisterous myself at times, but I do know when and where to behave.

It amused me because there was a guy at the door checking membership cards to enter the Pavillion, yet if you went round the front, all the glass windows were open and the door unattended, so anyone could (and did) get in.
Therefore, having a  guy on the door was a waste of time

Much the same as the Tom Pearce lower.  Gangs of security on some gaps in the wall but none on others or the ends.

My continuing gripe is the queueing at the bar. Can't we do something to separate the tea drinkers from the beer drinkers. 
Why do we queue anyway!!? The pavilion is the only place I know where you have to queue for a pint.
The gentle scrum is a far more efficient and quicker way of getting served.

What about a small separating barrier at the tea end of the bar.

You could have a sign saying "Mugs of tea" & another saying "Mugs for Kentish beer".

How can that be ?  More traditional maybe, but I don't see how it can be quicker unless you "push in".

Because when ever a barperson comes free he has to ask who's next. That person then asks the 2 blokes in front "Are you being served etc" . He then has to manoevre round 2-3 people to reach the barperson. The barstaff like it this way as they serve less people at a gentler rate.

All this is fine mid afternoon in a county game., but in the short interval of T20 or shortened 40/50 its not.

The scrum may not be perfect, but its quicker.

My gut feel is that it's no point paying 145 quid a year for pavilion priveleges if we're just going to allow groups of pissed up in-breds into the club.  Especially those that clearly are not respecting those that are there for the cricket, no matter what format.

That little bit of rhetoric should stir the porridge I imagine..

I attribute very little of my membership fee to "pavilion privileges" and on the odd occasion I pop in, it's usually for a coffee which I buy and leave with. The majority of my beer I buy from a local hostelry which specialises in Essex beers. However I would expect a certain standard of behaviour from members and their guests anywhere within the ground - not just the pavilion. If it's that big a problem the idea of a pavilion steward doesn't sound unreasonable.

PS  if the umpires had got them out a bit quicker (if that'd been a T20 match, they'd have been playing a couple of hours earlier), perhaps they wouldn't have been so pissed !

and that is a very fair point.  I'm sure the club was reporting very decent sales in the bars.

Does the club actually get any of the profit from the bar takings?
