Player of the Month voting
« on: May 12, 2014, 07:11:33 PM »
I saw the message on the Website & thought I would vote for the April POTM but it then says you can only do so on Facebook or Twitter, neither of which I am on or have any desire to be on!!
Why can't it just be available to everyone like it used to be as not all of us are on either or both of the aforementioned?

Who apart from teenagers would want to take part in a POTM vote.

I suppose it is a pretty moot exercise.

Going by last year Napier & Masters would share it on alternative months.

I always voted for POTM, yet this year I am frozen out because I won't have facebook or twitter.  It is now obvious that the club is run by idiots for their friends.

Not on Twitter or Facebook? Then it's pretty much game over for you! ;D

Some people on here seem to think that because something doesn't appeal to themselves or their lifestyle personally that it is somehow wrong and shouldn't be done.

I know that POTM awards have been around since the glory days (Lay & Wheeler sponsored it) and it is only natural that the club wants to generate some interest by continuing it by expanding to take in the new forms of unsocieable media.

Maybe they should introduce a manager/coach of the month award just for Larry. Although he may not win it every month once certain people get a facebook account.  ;)

I noticed the nominations float past on the old twitter feed. The choice seemed to be Cook, Foster or Masters. I thought Foakes might've been given a nod too. Couldn't decide who of the three deserved it, so gave the voting a miss this time.

In which case it should be re-branded as the 'Young Eagles' POTM!......Why can't we vote on line, by phone or by text?  Also, the first notification on the official website was on the 12th May & the deadline for voting the 13th. Yet another example of poor planning & incompetence by our Marketing Department!

Andy - I'm not allowed to have a Facebook or Twitter account because of my job - so don't judge people as 'out of date' when you have no idea about their lives.

I do want to participate and agree that a one day deadline is crazy -

Your point is irrelevant. You specifically supported the idea that this POTM award is pointless and only by/for kids: who are the future of the club.

I do agree over the timing issue, sadly the marketing dept is seemingly going the way of all depts at ECCC, which is unfortunate.

I am however interested in your job. I'm guessing either MoD or MI5.

Andy, surely doesn't matter what our friends job is, or who with. The fact that they're not allowed to have a Facebook or Twitter account is something which the marketing dept ought to bear in mind.

It's totally understandable that one should be able to vote by these means, but it shouldn't be the only means.

Andy - read my original post again - I was objecting to the fact that you could only vote by Facebook or Twitter.
Obviously whoever decided this does not understand that not everyone can vote in this way.

Essex need supporters of all ages - my son was less than a year when I first brought him to Chelmsford and he has watched matches all around the country ever since.

I see, well I'll let it pass.  ;)

However, the days of sending votes in 'on a postcard or stuck down envelope' have gone the way of the poor old GPO.
