New Chairman?
« on: February 05, 2022, 08:19:09 AM »
Does anybody know what is happening as regards the appointment of a new chairman? It seems to have gone very quiet on that topic. I would have thought an appointment was important with all the turmoil in cricket presently.

I think John Stephenson is acting chair until the AGM, when a new appointment will be made.

I've been involved in a overseas project since the autumn, so having a belated dip into the world of ECCC.

Who knew the Club had an [allegedly] racist chairman!?

In terms of the now long-abandoned, even as a pretence, 'ground redevelopment', I seem to recall Farragher not that long ago bullishly using 'Johnsonian boosterism' insisting that his lasting legacy would be delivery of 'the best non-test match ground in the country'. Appears his actual legacy will be remembered for something quite different!

Please note these racist comments  are alleged accusations which JF denies.

Is it even comments? I thought it was the use of one outdated phrase he was accused of using.

In regards to the allegation against John Farragher, it has been reported that the Essex investigation has determined "beyond reasonable doubt" that the offending phrase was made.
Meanwhile Mr Farragher, who denies the offence,  wants to attend  the Kent match this week, whilst Essex want to discourage his attendance.
There may be trouble ahead.

Of course it was determined. Anything else would have seen the whole club accused of much worse... someone has to be sacrificed at the alter of all these causes when noisy minorities (i don't mean ethnic i mean generally) shriek and throw mud, see the Carl Beech fiasco for starters.

At worst had he said it, it was a clumsy outdated term, nothing more and zero negative racial connotations inferred. Such is the world we live in over the last few years someone must always be to blame for others failings, or simply because of who they are and their background. Strange times.
I would love to know who has the axe to grind here.

I suspect that it will pop up on YouTube “don’t you know I am?  Yes, what you WERE, you’re not coming in”.

There is nothing to stop John Farragher paying on the gate and entering the members enclosure as a guest of a member. Are they going to make him a complete non person as they did to Don Topley?

Unfortunately for them Don Topley had media accreditation via the visiting team so that plan failed.

The Toppers issue was somewhat different, although the club didn’t cover itself in glory over that matter either.  Nasser said in his autobiography that letting DT go without a benefit, when the likes of {insert a mate Gooch here} seemed to have jobs for life was poor.

Probably best to get someone who steers clear of social media.

Is there such a person?  Other than the two of us, that is.
