So Ronnie Irani is now stepping down.

Not too sure what to think! He was the inspiration (so we are told) to het Harmer in - will be interesting to see who he is replaced by?

I'm not surprised to be honest. He has failed to turn up to quite a few Members Forums [Fora?] despite being expected.

Interesting times as they say ...

Respected him as a player (not as captain) and surprised me by seemingly giving a dynamism to the resurgence post-2017. Key thing is can we get someone to replace that drive?

I'm available...between coaching duties.

Taking nothing away from Ronnie as he has done a tremendous amount for the club over all these years he has been with us. However he has been in business for a while and should have known that his commitments meant he couldn't give the club the same attention as in the past. Therefore it's my opinion he shouldn't have put his name forward for the committee elections recently.

So the question is, how is he replaced considering he has now taken votes from the other candidates ?i Is there a reelection of all,  or is the fourth placed candidate a automatic replacement ?

Those nominated were:

Mr Peter Edwards
Mrs Vicky Ford MP
Mr Paul Harvey
Mr Ronnie Irani
Mr Baiju Solanki
Mrs Kate Walters

Those elected onto the General Committee:

Mrs Vicky Ford MP
Mr Paul Harvey
Mr Ronnie Irani

He got rid of Larry.

For that we should be eternally grateful.

The timing is interesting, with 16 players out of contract at the end of the season you would have expected him to be leading the renegotiations. Also a couple of weeks after the appointment of John Stephenson. Looks like there is a clean broom!!

Shenfield Eagle I was thinking the same thing. The appointment of John Stephenson is unlikely to be a coincidence. Suggests he might be hands on regarding player recruitment and retention.

In typical egotistical Irani manner, claims as much credit for himself as possible, then somewhat mysteriously leaves.

As with Shenfield Eagle, I wonder if Stanley has decided to take a decisive and proactive stance and moved him along.
If he has, then hopefully this is the beginning of an approach to cricket and the operation of No Change Essex that finally moves the club into a much more focused and professional structure. Away from former players, and their mates with little obvious qualifications, or abilities, being weeded out.

Yes, reminds me of the Club offering him a new two year contract, a week before he announced his retirement

https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/county-news-ronnie-irani-steps-down-as-essex-cricket-committee-chair-1272614

Irani has fulfilled the unpaid role for about six years. In that time, Essex have won five trophies including the County Championship in 2017 and 2019 and the Bob Willis Trophy in 2020. They were in Division Two when he took on the role.
With his business interests growing, however, Irani feels he no longer has the time required to continue in the position. He estimates he has dedicated around 40 hours a week to the club over the last few years and, with his company (R&D Advisors) now employing 40 people, he has feels he needs to commit more time to it. He will remain on the club's board and his company remains one of Essex's sponsors.
