With the experience our second string bowlers are getting and occasionally the odd batsman as well. We should be a god bet for the diluted one day cup next season.

The odd wide JasonP agreed, not three in one over, which ultimately cost Essex 20 runs.

The point I am making about Porter and Cook, is that their greater experience would probably have seen them bowl a significantly run reduced over.

Obviously Beard has his champions and have seen him perform better than I have seen. I wish him well..

Of course bowlers try to negate the leg side hoick, by bowling wide of the off stump. As professional bowlers, margins should be managed, not failing three times in six balls.

Surely Tom or Dan could not have done worse than Beard?

And that point may or may not be true

The underlying situation was that they were both returning from injury so the sensible decision was not to risk them - when there are bigger fish to fry.

I agree with not playing Jamie or Sam but I can't believe someone in yesterday's team could not have made a better job of 19th over.

Or could someone have made a better job of choosing the bowler for the penultimate over?

Yes - that too!
