Oh dear JasonP need to eat some humble pie.

Why?  If he was dropped for no other reason than the coach/captain think he's not good enough to make a poor Essex T20 side then that is ridiculous.  He was dropped from the squad after a match that didn't even take place against Gloucestershire at home and then brought back after a game which we won easily.  That makes no sense at all.

With a bit of luck, our remaining matches might all be rained off. That would be a result.

Anything to avoid another evening like tonight.

The team were not even pathetic, well short of that.

Essex can look forward to playing to  a half empty County ground or worse, unless major T20 issues are addressed.

Will we learn from this year, seems unlikely.

A total & utter embarrassment tonight with only Ravi of the bowlers escaping criticism & all the batsmen deserve locking up for that spineless & hopeless display where they just threw their wickets away giving Somerset's fielders catching practice. We really have no idea how to play T20 these days & only the weather can save us losing to Glam on Fri which would really be the pits.
Next year there won't be any sellouts at Chelmsford unless our T20 displays dramatically improve , which I suspect they won't, people are not going to waste their money watching that level of performance.

After last week yet another pathetic, spineless and embarrassing defeat. All out after 12 Overs !!  Have to believe that the Club and players have no interest or motivation for T20. Our two overseas "stars" Amir and Zampa conceded 87 runs in their 8 Overs - are they really worth the large sum of money that we are paying them ?  Also what could be the reasoning for playing Walter and Beard in preference to Porter and Sam Cook who were actually named in the squad.  Paying Supporters are likely to be rather less keen to part with money for tickets next Season unless there is a big change in team performances.

Will the performance of the team really effect sales.
Remember,  last year our performance was as dire.

Agree that it seems the club is not interested in the one day and t20 game. Really was poor last night.

Second biggest defeat ever for the club in T20, only beaten by 143 run defeat in 2011, also against Somerset.

We have an opener who does not play but was involved in the highest ever opening stand in Essex T20 history........AN Cook.
Give him a go, at least we might bat more than 13 overs.

I wouldn't swap this current era with when we were supposedly good at one day cricket.

Saying that we are now the worst one day side in the country.

weel, this isn’t ‘proper cricket’ why are people getting so upset. If we’d picked the likes of little chef and porter and they got injured, if we picked big Chef and he faffed around at the top of the order...

Interesting to read the comments, all rather unanimous about No Change Essex.
In reality the Club have never really had a clue how to approach T20, and from what I can tell, admittedly from afar, is that they formed their (rigid) tactics for the T20 in 2003 when the format was introduced and haven't really changed them since.
I think the difference is now the team appears to be full of players who are a); not suited to and therefore shouldn't be playing T20, or b); ones who are way past their best, but look to live out their past "glories". As opposed to the Grayson era when it clearly was the Club's overwhelming desire and increased desperation to win the competition, to the degree where ill-thought signings such as the selfish, underperforming Shah were primarily engaged to play in the tournament to the detriment of all else. Of course being an insular and defensively minded Club ECCC still insisted to the bitter end, when all evidence pointed otherwise that the Championship was their priority.
Now the Championship is the priority. - Personally I'm delighted that's the situation!

I doubt the crowds would have fallen too much in any case, after all, with the abysmal facilities, cramped nature and a tiny capacity it would be difficult not to claim a "sell-out" crowd.
However, come next season when T20 will be made largely peripheral by the Franchise cricket, then the sizeable minority from which these "sell-outs" comprise (largely consisting of summering football supporters) who will move on to the next thing.

Speaking as someone who usually only attends a couple of 20-20 games I only consider it a bit of fun,I am not too bothered if we win or lose I just like to see an entertaining or close game.I was lucky to see the Surrey game and will be attending next Wednesday.I am totally satisfied if Essex are prioritising the Championship over 20-20,that is mine and I believe most members priority.
