I couldn’t give a ———- about 20/20 but am pleased to hear this as I think Harmer would be the best choice for captain in proper cricket, when Tendo has to retire—hopefully not for a couple more seasons yet.

Still want Harmer as captain? How can an off spinner bowl a front foot no ball?!

Overstepping may be a heinous crime in the modern game, but doesn't make him a bad captain. Given the shambolic efforts under RtD this year, unless you can persuade AB de Villiers there are few alternatives to SH...

Awful white ball bowler - joke decision to make him T20 skipper, especially with Zampa arriving.

Yep. You have to wonder who is making all of these 'playing' decisions because whoever it is ... haven't got a scooby.

Given the current personnel who would you make captain?

I wonder if he'll be here next season?  With the 50 overs basically being a waste of time next season and him not being in the 4 day team then is there a lot of incentive to stick around just for a few twenty20 matches if he got an offer from elsewhere?

In my opinion Chopra, given his form in short formats since his return, should be just about the only dead cert name on the team sheet in both white ball comps. This and his previous experience of captaincy would mean the logical decision would have been to hand him the job in both the ODC and T20.

A major issue at the club is McGrath and Tendo's inflexibility at times on selection issues. Certain players are clearly undroppable in this regime and that should never be the case in any professional sports team. Tendo is not an all-rounder and neither is Harmer. I'd be happy if Harmer was in at 10 in white ball, 9 at a push. The fact that he now has to play in T20 alongside Zampa...well it's going to seriously unbalance the team and we will struggle like last year.

Anyone who kids themselves that whiteball doesn't matter should be reminded that form is generally contagious and I, like most  members, want Essex to progress and be in the mix for all three formats.

Harmer is a very good 4 day bowler indeed but has never had the same sort of success for us in white ball.

His selection as T20 captain is looking very odd given he has now been dropped from the RLODC team altogether.

Interestingly Harmer is playing for the 'stiffs' today vs MCCYC.

Yes, I noticed that too - I was going to go if the weather had been kinder.
