Overseas players in Club Cricket
« on: September 21, 2018, 12:17:25 PM »
The 2019 Essex League starts after the Brexit date. What is the position regarding Dutch, Danish and Southern Irish club cricketers? Will they only be allowed to play as an overseas' player?
In county cricket there are several EU registered players, including Tendo. What will be their situation? I expect the ECB have published their ruling, but I must have missed it.

I have been in touch with the ECB. They are awaiting the final Brexit details before they know the status of Irish (Eire), Dutch etc club players. If the EU nationals are deemed overseas players then clubs will have to decide between playing Aussie/South African.etc players in the !st Xl and dropping the EU players to their lower sides. Only one overseas per side.
How many sides in the Shepherd & Neame League have Irish or Dutch players? The leave date for Brexit is only two weeks before the 2019 cricket season.

If a South African has a long term contract with a county as a Kolpak player, does that contract have to be honoured by the county and the ECB, meaning they would still be allowed to play as a Kolpak after the Brexit date? If so it may be worth giving Harmer a ten year extension...
