A new low ...

No not Essex. At least not yet.

Tonight Derbyshire selected only 3 English players in their team. I'm a long term supporter of an 18 county system (in fact I'd advocate an expansion of the 1st class system in he UK) but Derby are taking the ****.

I'm pretty sure they have 4 but yes, it's pretty pathetic.

Actually 5, given scots can play for england with no issues and always have.

Lets not let facts get in the way of a good thread though... ::)

6 if you count Madsen who is qualified.

He may have absolutely no interest in playing for England though.  Paul Stirling can technically play for England but has always said he has no interest in doing so.   That's a pretty big issue.

Stirling would play for England if he was good enough.

Although I wouldn't mind him playing for Essex to be honest.

Would strengthen the team in all formats.

The worrying thing is that Derbyshire CCC by their own admission are financially in a huge muddle.

How much is it costing them in their Kolpak/overseas/temporary contracted players investment?

Absolutely ridiculous, no wonder Barnett was sacked.

Even Bransgrove has resorted to just 5 in most games.

Probably a lot cheaper than developing one's own talent. Particularly as most of the snowflakes can't stand up to a full time professional career...

Derbys have never been a rich club, they were reasonable under Barnett.  Ah but we're not allowed to question whether the club should have 1st class status, unlike more populated neighbouring counties. ;)

Brexit will kill Kolpaks.

Unless Bransgove has got friends in the Tory party.

Unfortunately, I disagree.  This is a lie put about to get Brexit. Cheap imported labour is in the interest of big business.

I believe Madsen has England ambitions particularly white ball thus he has done the qualification period - he is a decent player who in the right circumstances could get picked & do well, also a good red ball batsman as well.
Essex normally play 8/9 English qualified players, the majority home produced, as do Worcs.
