Middlesex 14 overs in and Zampa has bowled one over. One overseas not even picked and Zampa is nothing compared to the quality of previous years (Amir, Southee, Tait etc).

Harmer the hero.  Never in doubt, apparently.

Exciting match, enjoyable to win like that but hard to see either team doing well in the competition.  Strange team selection, again.  Thanks to Wheater we got ourselves into a position where we should have won more comfortably.  Middlesex fielded poorly and we had a few streaky shots go our way towards the end.

Made hard work of it and although he got us over the line, Harmy is never a No.7 - No.8 at very best (more like a No.9).

Zaidi should replace him at 7, Walter for Coles at 8.

I have to say that this relentless persecution of Wagner is insulting as well as annoying. No one is saying that he is our best or ideal overseas player particularly in limited over cricket but the fact he is here for that is hardly his fault. On the other hand the last time I checked he is still in the top ten bowlers in the world and has been on a losing side in championship cricket for Essex precisely once and played a significant part, inter alia, in a pivotal win at Somerset last year. He is a dedicated and excellent pro who I KNOW has had minor knee problems all this season - witness the huge brace he wears in warm ups - but he never complains and never hides. My view is  that we need a batsman for the remainder of the championship season and if we must, another o/s for the tedious lottery that is 20;20 but otherwise we should thank Wagner for his contribution to what until now has been a transformation of the county's fortunes.

I would add I don't know the guy at all just impressed as others in the team have been to his contribution, work ethic and influence on younger players. He deserves more that the cheap shots he may have read about on here.

Not sure anyone is slagging Wagner off, he seems like a decent bloke and in 4 day cricket has done really well for the club. However, whoever signed him to play the T20 (or not as it seems) has, in my view, cocked up.  Looking at our side, we desperately need a batter for the T20, instead we have wasted our OS spot on a player that is much more suited to red ball cricket.  Is that Wagners fault, no, but its still where we are.  We should have signed a batter for the T20 and then got Siddle back for the end of the CC season (In my opinion)

That's the point I think we are all making. I rate Wagner and it's rather annoying to see him carrying the drinks. I'm fairly sure he does not do T20 - so why is he here? The next non T20 match is (ignoring the India game) in august by which time Siddle returns. All seems rather odd!
