Good to see the club listening to its members.

Perhaps Ronnie "Zammo" Irani has heeded the call.

It will probably be a futile gesture but well done to the Club for going with the views of the Members.

Good on John Faragher for leading from the front with this which sits in stark contrast to his predecessor who couldn't role over fast enough to get any and every ECB 20;20 proposal adopted- including I suspect this one- no matter how deleterious to Essex's long term interests or to the sport in general. He rather wanted to change the sport into 'baseball' (quote) and saw the financial future there. Well the absence of any eulogies for him in the yearbook - apart from some obligatory pleasantries from Doug Insole- says it all. The fact is the club has finally smelt the coffee and has ended up doing a complete volte face in its attitude and direction.

Must admit somewhat surprised.  But congratulations to club in rejecting, especially with the enticement of the promised financial reward.
Counties must keep their own identities to survive,

More to the point, Mr Farragher has listened to the members which is a welcome change. Hope this is a long term trend.

Not surprisingly Durham take a different view...p#***d away all the regional aid thrown at them over the years now have nothing to p#** in and are grasping at straws.

Botham never won many tosses as captain...just saying.

I note that Middlesex's Chairman has expressed more concerns about the proposed franchises querying what happens after the £1.3m a year for 4 years 'deal' runs out for the Counties. Good point which nobody else seems to have thought of, short term gain for long term pain  it would seem for the Counties!!
I wonder what will happen after 2024??

I see that K*nt have copped out by abstaining on the franchise vote. Typical.

Kent are in the same boat as Essex & should really have the courage to just say 'No': John Faragher pointed out that the franchise system will mean large parts of the country being deprived of live cricket (watching on TV isn't usually quite the same), he is quite right & several Counties may well go to the wall eventually especially after the annual 'bribe' sorry payment from the ECB dries up (& I bet it will).
The cost of tickets will be very interesting to see as well as which competition suffers/has to make way for it - either the Royal London Cup will be axed or the SCC reduced again.

So (most of) the turkeys have voted for Christmas. Full steam ahead for the end of 18 CC cricket.
