Twenty short of par. Told you Wagner is one of our best 20-20 batsmen. Strike that ... he is one of our best batsmen.
-
What's happened to your lad's bowling nat?

What's happened to your lad's bowling nat?
Nothing. You should have a go at bowling with 50 yd boundaries at batsmen with bats the size of railway sleepers.

You want to take him to the train yard.

I'll turn him into allrounder.

Yes but you'll need to buy more cones... Of the ice cream variety if Coles is anything to go by.
-
Zampa is class. No wonder my ex colleague was unhappy when he moved from Adelaide.
-
Wagner has got to go. Siddle is sitting in the dug out. Bring him in pronto.
-
Why is Walter not playing??? Likewise Zaidi???
That was shocking. Total useless to let that slip.
-
Bopara and Wagner death bowlers? Give me a break. I see Porter didn't complete his allocation of overs having only gone for 6 an over. I thought Foster wasn't a great captain but RTD takes the biscuit.
Seriously think we should be looking for a new captain before the real cricket returns next month.

Really can't understand how Rtd goes from champ to chump in a season. Surely Spoons wasn't directing him by remote control last year?
-
That was absolutely shocking - we've lost a game we had wrapped up with 3 overs to go, because our overseas bowler cannot play T20 cricket - and for some reason our captain has left our best seamer with an over spare. Tendo's captaincy is really letting us down
-
I'd be concerned that playing Cook jnr and Porter in this slog fest competition will harm their development in the proper form of the game which is where their long term future predominantly lies.
You employ an overseas player to make major contributions and we all know Wagner has contributed **** all this season and last if we're honest.
Take Porter, Cook and Wagner out of the team and play bowlers better suited including using RTD.
We've now got a week to re-think and I hope they make good use of the time.

RTD has never been a good captain...on the field. We've won in spite of him not because of him.

Yes but look at the shambles we were under Foster. These are schoolboy errors and team tactics are not just a captaincy issue. DM is meant to be a t20 expert. If he is then I'm Jessica ennis masseuse.
-
Well, if we thought we were a complete mess after last night's game then we must now be a total shambles after tonight!
Will be interesting to see how Tendo and the hapless McGrath try to explain this utter embarrassment.
Utterly baffling team selection (only one change and that one was one that actually weakened the team!) !) no change or imagination in the batting order AGAIN and then the icing on the cake was our star overseas fast bowler bowling like it was the first time he's ever played the game! Surely to goodness the management have got to cut their losses, admit their mistake and as diplomatically as possible send him on his way TOMORROW morning and play Siddle instead (although it's probably too late for this competition anyway!). What on earth must the admirable Zampa be thinking when he sees that "effort" from his fellow overseas bowler?!
We shouldn't see either of Lawrence or Westley in this year's competition again either as they are both utterly useless at the moment.
This is probably the worst T20 side Essex have ever had and with the, seemingly, lack of ANY inspiration from the deadly duo coaches, then it could well turn into a total farce of a campaign.
Still, does the club really care as the *issheads will still pack out the remaining 2 home matches regardless!
-
I'm starting to think that Grayson would be an upgrade on McGrath. His team selections starting with the Notts CC game have been utterly ridiculous. Anyone with even half a brain can see we need more batting depth in that team. To keep playing Harmer in this cricket is a. Joke. He totally unbalances the side. I'm sure the top 5 would be able to play with a bit more freedom if they had something behind them.
-
Said it before and I’ll say it again, Tendo a great red ball captain but a horrible white ball captain, probably the worst we’ve had in the modern era. Chickens came home to roost tonight! A pat on the back for the hierarchy who took the cheap option and didn’t have the bollocks to tell Wagner he was only wanted for a few red ball games. This loss is on you! Not that they’ll care, another sell out tonight and all the other games going the same way based on the ticketing site. That’s all that matters, forget whether the people occupying them care about Essex/Cricket or not.
-
Agree about Porter and Cook. We need to keep them fresh for the CC. We have other bowlers who could do with a game and would be equally as good for crash bang wallop. Walter would also strengthen the batting as would Zaidi for Harmer. Possibly even a case for one of them replacing a non performing specialist batsman.

We've still got 4 home matches to come yet! After the joke selections we've had so far with the batting line ups getting weaker and weaker I'm very interested to see what the team looks like by the last of those. Probably something like this.
Wheater
Walter
Harmer
Siddle
Plom
Zampa
Snater
Quinn
Dixon
Cook
Porter

Now now don't give them ideas.

The only T20 I watch is occasionally on tv tho I do of course follow Essex fortunes:
I must point out that if batsmen are still in and get some luck, the last couple of overs are always likely to be VERY expensive. So it makes absolute sense to have them bowled by your best, experienced bowlers:Wagner and Bopara last night.
Dismal selection again hampered us— Zaidi and Coles are nothing if not one-day specialists, yet McGrath selects inexperienced Cook(troubled by injuries) and Lawrence(totally out of form)—as is Westley—so why on earth do we not let Wagner swing the bat at no.3?

"Best, experienced bowlers, Wagner and Bopara" - congratulations paulm, you have won the Specsavers award for the best mistaken identities of the season.

Apologies! No idea where I got just 2 more games from!!

My top order for the rest of the tournament:
Pugh,
Hugh,
Barley-Macgrew,
Cuthbert,
Diddle,
Possibly PC Plom or Grub at 6.

Poor performance in the T20 can be no surprise - we all predicted it. Last night's poor team selection was compounded by poor catching, some poor fielding and a crazy run out with Bopara and RTD which may cost us the game since RTD out the next ball. However we do not have the players to do well in T20 anymore anyway. Sad thing is that by August or before this will be a dead competition for us - shame about all the advance tickets sold. Don't think that I will be buying many tickets ahead for next Season unless something drastic happens.

Well, they are the most experienced at least.
-
Assuming that the team have clear the air meetings when things go badly wrong - like they are doing in this years T20 I expect Zampa , being an Aussie, wouldn't hold back & would have some strong words to say about how well (well badly if truth be told) his teammates are performing. If we are to qualify we need to win at least 6/7 of the last 10 games, well you can dream can't you??

So you'd weaken the batting order even more and ruin the careers of three young bowlers?! Good work.
-
I presume this for the fixtures this week?
I would suggest that a lot of this team are not available.
Walter, out of favour
Coles-injured?
Porter-With Lions
Plom-with England U19s.
I agree with Nat about needlessly flogging kids confidences in a nothing event.
Wagner should and will play as will Lawrence
-
Why not just reverse the batting order?
We're so inept we can't be far off that stage.

Now that was suggested several times back in the 70 when several of those batting at 8 to 11, especially Stuart Turner & Ray East, looked far more likely to make serious runs than a top 5 containing Graham Saville, Brian Ward and other such horrors.
Sadly it was never tried
-
We could do worse than call up young Patel from the stiffs.
A Brentwood School lad who has looked promising for a while and recently got a couple of tons at a really quick rate.

Agreed but he won't improve the fielding.

Whatever happened to Brian Ward? I heard he ended up in Argentina, but then 'a little local difficulty' arose and he had to move. Certainly that was an era very different from the one I grew up with - Gooch, Hardie, McEwan and Fletch with room for promising bats like Prich and all rounders like Pringle.
Seems bizarre that we now have seam bowling talent coming through regularly (given the likes of Topley Jnr and Mills alongside more recent crop) but quality top order bats are like hen's teeth when batting is the easier option.
