Somerset at Chelmsford
« on: October 08, 2025, 10:04:47 AM »
What a good end to the season - a victory over Somerset by 7 wickets which protected our place in Division 1 for next season!

The 1st wicket stand in our first innings of 277 by Dean Elgar (118) & Paul Walter (158) was a new record between Essex and Somerset. The previous record of 233 was set by TC Dodds (146) &      AV Avery (85) at Westcliff in 1952.

This match was the 150th First Class Match for Jamie Porter.

Sorry that this report comes a little later after the finish of the match than usual but I was on holiday in Dorset with Family part of which travelled from Canada!

This is also my "swan-song" report - I retired from scoring at the end of the 2023 season and, after 33 seasons with the Club as Steward, Scorer and Statistician I have decided to let younger people take over! I have enjoyed writing these reports and hope that they have provided some useful information from time to time.
I shall still be around the Ground on Match Days but watching from a different point of view!

With December fast approaching perhaps it is the right time to wish you all a Happy Christmas and a successful 2026 Season!

Have a well deserved  rest, but feel free to comment on these boards in an unofficial capacity, and hopefully  we shall have a good season next year.👍

Best wishes to you on your retirement Aztec.
Many thanks for your participation in the stats department, a most helpful source of information which will be sadly missed.
Have a long and happy one.

Thanks everybody - it has been a pleasure to provide you with the stats. If you recognise me at the Ground please introduce yourself - I did not get a chance to meet people whilst being restricted to the Scorebox all day!!
