Well well well, the club have kept that quiet. A Kent legend has slipped onto the payroll. Wonder what the odds are on Matt Walker being next through the door..

He is one of a staff of ten. I hope that there is the income to pay everyone.

Somehow, when the novelty wears off, there will not be.

I thought that as well, although I assume all the money is coming from the ECB. They probably panicked after McGrath did a runner and essentially just parachuted over everyone from the regional team who have been the worse setup in women's cricket over the past four years (mainly ex-Middlesex staffers, including Danni Warren). Stevens though...could we really not have found a former Essex player up to the job?

Agreed, the novelty will wear off when they start losing every week like they did as 'Sunrisers'. They only have one good player (Scrivens) and no England players now Mady Villiers has ditched them.

The Sunrisers won the 50 comp last year.  If this competition is similar to the system the Sunrisers play in then having no England players is an irrelevance.  They barely play in it.  Sciver-Brunt didn't play a single game last year and others play very little.
It will be interesting to see how it plays out popularity wise.  I think the plan is to play some T20 double headers along with the Essex mens team.  That's worked well in The Hundred.

A Double Header means a captive audience waiting for the Men's game.

I have asked if anyone is known of, at the T20 Finals day at Trent Bridge when Essex lost the first game. Walked out and bought a Single ticket for the train home. There must be a few people who leave after the first 100 game, before the crowd starts getting silly.

They finished 4th in that comp over 14 games (the only time in eight tries that they managed to get past the group stage of any comp). They then won a big toss in a rain-ruined final, so while they won it, they were nowhere near the best team (a bit like us in 2019).

From a popularity perspective we need them to be good at T20 with the assumption that they'll be playing double headers. They've lost 25 of 29 T20 games and have never beaten the Surrey team in four years. It doesn't bode well.

" Hi Daren, we have some  good news and some bad news" "The good news is we would like to offer you a coaching  job at Essex CCC". "The bad news is, you will be coaching  women"

I love that it says 'Former Leicestershire all-rounder Darren Stevens' with no mention of his other team!
