Ground development

I notice a news bit on the club website saying you can pay £20 plus vat to hear Essex Cricket Chief Executive Derek Bowden giving an update on the ground development. So for £20 you can find out what is happening but paid members are kept in the dark.

From what I can gather the development will actively disadvantage members.

Larry will get a nice new dressing room to hide in though ...

That's if they still have members. We have been treated roughly in the past, and no improvements have yet been published. Being kept in the dark as usual, till they want money.

Frankly you'd get a more coherent "update" from next doors' cat!

On the previous Club mediated message board, I asked several questions of this "vanity project" to which the Club attempted, and as far as I'm aware, continue to prevaricate on.
I work in architecture, and I am unaware of a single instance of a design spec. (and associated drawings) not being issued and agreed with the clients before any agreement is signed. Therefore, the Club have full details images/models of this redevelopment and have had since the deal was signed, what, two years ago?, or more. The difference is they don't want the likes of us to see them. Do they have something to hide I wonder?
One of those questions was why no detailed drawings/images/designs of ANY of the redevelopment, except for the apartment blocks, have been released. Six months later, there continues to be no sign of them.
I'd be generous and say that maybe the Club are so overrun with the project they haven't been able to update. However, I would suggest it is deliberate and they are actually frightened to release any images as they will likely depict that key aspects of the spectator accommodation is poorer than what is currently in place.
Basically, the extra seating; 1,500 or so, depending on who/if you can believe, will be crammed into a disproportionately large pavilion complex.  Adequate in a time specific duration sport such as football or rugby, but where spectators are expected to sit for several hours at a time, altogether inadequate. The seat treads (space between the seats - which determines how much leg room you are provided) will be knee scruntchingly tight. Of course, as the Club are clearly disinterested in anything but short attention span T20 -  where a significant proportion of "spectators" spend more time out of their seats, queuing for the bar/toilets - then it's something else they believe they can get away with.

Isn't the Tom Pearce Stand scheduled for demolition?

Well, apparently, it is. But, because the Club are so reticent over providing any details, it's all a bit of a guessing game. This is my whole point. An unaccountable, secretive Club, who tell us the part of the story that puts them in the best light, whilst the more prosaic, but equally important and salient information is censored.
I sometimes wonder if this whole scheme was sketched out on a napkin in wine cellar somewhere?

I seem to recall that it was to be replaced by a single tier structure. Basically to make space for the more lucrative apartments that will be sited further along the River End.

Well when the revolution comes we can shed some light on the matter to everyone.

When the Tom Pearce comes down it will certainly shed some light on the train spotting fraternity. ;)
