what sort of championship team would we be able to field without it?

since T20 started we've spent 1 year in CC Div 1, so hopefully a better team than that.

How, precisely? We might not be a club anyomore by now relying upon a few grumbling crumblies who expect a lot for a little.

All counties would be the same as they were pre T20 and cricket would have carried on in this country without the need for counties to fold and we would be in the same position as all the other counties.  Napier, Foster, Topely etc aren't with us because of T20 money and my point as mentioned is that since T20 we've spent 1 year in CC Div 1 and i wouldnt consider that a success.  Look at the Bravo fiasco, thats where the T20 money went that year not on improving the side for the CC.

The club deserved to come unstuck with that stunt.

Although saying that I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to parachute in a ringer for another finals day.

If they get that far of course.

They cant, we already have our 2 o/s players in Ryder and Tait. One of those would have to  miss out

I always thought the criticism of that was unfair.  They had Styris for the group matches but he was unavailable for finals day so they got a replacement for him.  It's not as if they were trying to get some kind of unfair advantage by doing it.  They just swapped one unavailable overseas player for one who was available.  Especially as Napier was injured and tendo was supposed to have missed it( he ended up rushing back and playing before he was properly ready).
I think they might have changed the rules now anyway.  I think there's a mimimum period for overseas players.

Napier, Foster, Topely etc aren't with us because of T20 money

Aren't they? Could we afford them all without it?

I'd say registering a player for games he had no intention of playing meets the definition of ringer.

I imagine that Surrey could, and Warwickshire and Hampshire as well to name three. It could well lead to a football situation where a few teams would collect all of the best players.

I get that not everyone likes T20 but it has to be accepted that it generates the vast majority of our current income.

You're dead right it would have ended up with a few counties having all the best players if players would be happy to be bench warmers.

i like the T20 but cant see how this has been of any benefit to any of our CC campaigns.

Nah - a Ringer is a talented person pretending to be useless but actually comes good.

No it does not. This myth has been perpetuated by the club and the commercial director in particular for too long. The majority of the club's income comes from the ECB handout and membership income.

ECB handout possibly but I cannot see the membership income outdoing the income generated from the T20 matches considering the price of tickets, the additional cost of guaranteeing a seat and the cost of, and amount of, beer drunk.

Isn't membership circa 5,000?

In which case income should not be sniffed at & the club should try to generate value for money on the field.

Instead of just talking about it.
