Richie Benaud RIP
« on: April 10, 2015, 11:30:17 AM »
An immense loss to broadcasting. Great to see how his playing career gets as much attention as his broadcasting - and in the latter his 'touch' is exemplified by his commentaries on Botham hammering the Aussies.

I would take issue with Aggers' comments that Benaud the skipper was different from Benaud the commentator, because the former was more daring and somehow less careful, nonsense he was meticulous in all he did.

Richie was the one Aussie no Englishman could dislike.

One of the great post war voices of TV sport  - along with those such as Henry Longhurst, Peter O'Sullevan, Eddie Waring, Bill McLaren and David Coleman - he was voice of my sporting childhood.

Monumental, effortless, charming, knowledgeable.
Richie only spoke when comment was necessary, his words had real impact when he chose to interject.
The voice of my childhood cricket viewing experience.
