A minor complaint, having rushed around to get there for the advertised start at 10:30 I was not best pleased to find play starting at 11am.

The club's website is still showing 10:30 as the start time.

I fell for this yesterday and arrived for 10:25.

As for the scanners i entered on at the river entrance and scanned in, as the game was 30 minutes later than i expected i walked through to the club shop, where i had to then scan out and scan back in again. So my first visit to the ground was probably recorded as a massive 2 minutes.  I understand scanning in and out at the start and end but to visit the club shop i found a bit extreme.

Lunchtime at the river entrance most people did just walk out.

These uni games have always started at 11am under first class rules - don't know how the club could get this wrong...

There are no rules about start times in 1st class cricket, just that there should be 11 a side. However even this ruling seems to go out of the window nowadays.

I was surprised when looking at the fixture card to see a 10:30 start so presumed both teams had agreed to an earlier time.  I would say if the club advertise something to start at 10:30 you'd be wise to turn up at that time and expect that to be the start of play.

I may be stupid here but if the club advertise a match as starting at 10:30am surely you'd believe that was the time it was starting?

Good pdf though i'll save that to my home drive.

Yes of course, my criticism is aimed at the club !!!

Andy was probably being sarcastic about the rules anyway!!!

DT, yes sorry i know and i totally agree with the points you are making.

It does make me wonder when the rules state 11am start the game is advertised as 10:30 and then starts at 11 anyway.

Other Domestic First Class Matches and non first-class 3-day MCC University matches against Counties
Normal timings will be:
1st and 2nd days
(and 3rd day in 4-day matches)........11.00am-6.30pm
Final Day.............................................11.00am-6.00pm
The above timings may be varied subject to ECB approval.

I presume Larry got a note from his mum to permit the extra half hour, then the umpires recognised the handwriting as being strangely familiar...

My bad, although I would say in mitigation that applying the word normal to ECCC or meself is itself abnormal (or should that be subnormal).

This seems to be a pretty trivial matter. Certainly when compared to other cock-ups made by the club over the years.

 ..... that'd be why I called it a "minor complaint"  ;)

So why bother mentioning it at all? It's only a free warm up match. There's those who say there's too much complaining on this BB. 🙈🙉🙊⚾️

It may be part of a cunning plan, as in recent years it's often seemed as though the Essex batsman don't realise the match has started till at least half an hour too late.

So my first visit to the ground was probably recorded as a massive 2 minutes.

In the interests of fairness maybe we should scan our batsmen in & out of the pavilion?

Although admittedly an innings of 2 minutes duration would be considered lengthy for Greg Smith.

I like the idea of that scaning the players.

For supporters I think everything should be scanned.  Bar visits, Toilet visits, entering the ground and leaving the ground etc. maybe we could have scanners on seats as well.
