Bringing alcohol into the ground
« on: August 07, 2014, 06:37:24 PM »
What is the policy on bringinging reasonable quantities of alcohol into the ground.

I know it’s zero for t20.
It’s OK for tour matches PROVIDED THAT it’s in plastic, not glass. I think. What about cans?
It’s any reasonable quantity (for members anyway) for LVCC games.
However, what’s the situation with One Day cup games? Someone's said none, but on Tuesday my wife and I brought in a bottle of wine; the steward looked into our bag, saw the bottle (presumably; it was clearly in view) and said OK. Later my wife brought in a couple of cans of gin & tonic from M&S and nothing was said.

A definitive statement would be appreciated, as would some consistency. I can understand the t20 policy, of course.

So why could I bring in a bottle of wine on Tuesday? It was clearly visible.  I opened my bag, (a picnic backpack), the steward picked up the seat cushion we had in there, saw what else was there and that was that. We went on in. No questions.

Fair enough if that’s the rule; plastic containers are no problem.

So it’s no alcohol for t20 or TV'd 50’s, then?

Been to the Oval and Lords in last two days with no sign of a bag search.

Is the alcohol policy only an Essex thing?

Yep and not the only 'Essex only' thing.

Yep and not the only 'Essex only' thing.

You mean there are no other counties who have different priorities to those stated?

we were o holiday in Scotland last week and after a day out my son and I watched a bit of the Kent game against Glamorgan on Sky. He pointed out that during the interval kids were playing on the outfield. I seem to recollect that isn't allowed at televised games at Chelmsford?

Yep I queried it some time ago. At first I was given some 'old pony' about it being an ECB regulation. Eventually the club admitted it was a local decision brought about by some unruly crowd behaviour in past games.

I've oft' requested that the club allow juniors (at least) on to the outfield at *all* games as this is a key ingredient in bringing in new/retaining junior members which the marketing dept keep telling us is all important.

We need some people in the marketing dept. who know something about cricket!

Was that the infamous stump stealing incident?
