"The review is scheduled to conclude in December, at which point a detailed update and future directives will be shared with members and stakeholders."

That sounds horribly like they're getting the management consultants in.

It has to be a positive that the club has acknowledged that performance has not been good enough.

Also a positive that views are being sort from a wider audience (ex players) although the announcement falls short of members engagement which is perhaps to be expected, but still disappointing.

I assume that the review will focus on the structure of the Cricket Committee given Gallian's resignation. Let's hope that responsibility and ultimately accountability for recruitment, contracts, coaching and strategy is clearer than present. I'd expect some ex-players to be engaged as mentors, but not really sure this takes anything forward personally. My personal preference would be to see Sir Alastair Cook appointed as Chair of this Committee, assuming that can be balanced with his existing commitments to commentary and farming. Cook is obviously Essex through and through, recently retired so still connected with the day to day and a household name to help attract quality recruitment.

The interesting thing will be Silverwood's role. He's clearly had a dreadful two years at the helm since his return to Essex. This cannot be disputed. This review will go one of two ways, either he get's sacked (unlikely and possibly too costly) or his role As Director of Cricket is to big and needs to be adjusted. I suspect the later is more likely and he'll be focused on the men's first XI with responsibility for the likes on women's, disability and men's seconds allocated elsewhere. You would hope an appropriate adjustment in salary, or a change in his renumeration to be performance related (doubt we will ever see such transparency tho)
