They don't seem to bother with it much.  It has the fixtures on the site but little else.   The website hasn't got up to date scores.

nvplay live is always the best place to go if you're looking for the score.

Again no details of the seconds against Yorkshire  on the Matchzone. Had to go on the Yorkshire site for the scorecard. Once again Das fails, Killen is wicketless over two innings, and Mackenzie Jones, drafted in late  from first team sub duties, has taken 4-40 odd. I still rate him as good, if not better than Bennett. Both worth  developing for the future.

The club is run on a shoestring and it shows,

Das contract was pretty baffling but I guess it was done as no one else but you would have thought a club player or NC could be drafted in as emergency if that desperate.

Kileen is odd, a coup signing we thought based on his Durham glimpses but struggling. But let's not underestimate the upheaval of moving from the far north to Essex at such a young age.

Indeed Killeen has totally disappeared whilst Akhtar has been useful and perhaps could be used more in the red ball team in the rest of this summer.

Sad to see the state of this team. Some players need to be put out of their misery.

I hadn't seen a 2s match for about 2/3 years but was at Billericay yesterday v Lancs. As Nat says it was a sad reflection on how thin our resources are, exacerbated by first team demands presumably-I made it Lancs had at least 8 contracted players on the field ,some with a lot of experience eg Bailey, Parkinson, Bell, Balderson, Bohannon, Hurst, while we had just one, who hasn't yet figured in the first XI in any format-Killeen, who I thought didn't bowl badly considering. In the circs I suppose we did well to scrape a draw. But there is zero atmosphere there in contrast to the old 2nd XI festivals at Coggeshall and Halstead or Bishops Stortford, where the home club made an effort. Coupled with the lack of any publicity about the team this is all part of the hollowed out, minimal club Essex is fast becoming under the present invisible management.

It?s a bit of an unfair comparison.  Lancashire were knocked out of the T20 and we were still in otherwise the likes of Das, Jones and Akhtar would have probably played.     Fernandes did play on day 1 but was subbed out.  Porter played today and I?m not sure why Westley hasn?t played to get some practice.

We have actually got a stronger squad this year than we have had over the last couple of years, 7 seamers not including Thain, 3 wicketkeepers, 3 spinners.  Not sure why we?d need more numbers than that in those departments.  At the start of last season before Jones and Bennett were added on rookie deals we had Snater, Porter, Cook and Richards as seamers.
Where we are short is batting.  Surely Das won?t get another contract and there doesn?t seem to be a lot coming through.

What the **** is going on with the 2XI?!

Getting thrashed by Glammy and as for Benkenstein he should be fined and dropped for the shot he played today.

Who is in charge of this rabble?

The Essex Squad is very small and with Cox, Cook and Das unavailable and 14 needed for tomorrow's match at Taunton, there is not much left for the Seconds. Only Benkenstein, Killeem and Zeb have any first team experience and two of those only in the Metro ODC. This means that our seconds are very inexperienced. Several are still eligable to play at U16 level. It's no wonder that they struggle.

So, not a rabble, more like a group of youngsters no doubt doing their best against more experienced opposition and perhaps even quite pleased to have been selected for our second eleven. Rather than contempt, some encouragement might be in order.

Barry Hyam, assisted by Mark Pettini.  Lost the match by a huge margin. Again, no Das.

It will get to the stage that, you dare not go and watch. In case you are asked to play for Essex.
