Brendon McCullum has reiterated his desire to remain as England head coach after an agonising defeat in the T20 World Cup semi-finals ended a bruising winter.
England's creditable run at the World Cup followed a 4-1 defeat on an Ashes tour blighted by mistakes on and off the field.

The price of failure is ?. Reinstatement.

He's lucky he looks to be staying but to me Robert Key would be first on the list to be got rid of.  McCullum always sounds like a genius when compared to Key.

I think Key has made a lot of bad decisions- including to appoint Baz as coach for both formats. I think Baz will stay, with perhaps Alec Stewart in Key's role. They might split the role again and keep Baz as one day coach, but I doubt it.

Phil Walker, who admittedly is a huge Essex fan, said on the Wisden podcast that he'd like to see RTD as coach. Prising him from the India set up would be a challenge though, especially since they've just won the T20 World Cup. I'd like to see Jonathan Trott given the test job. If he can cope with Afghanistan, he can cope with England.

Which double act, does Key and Baz remind you of. The Chuckle Brothers, Laurel and Hardy. Or as individuals, Frank Spencer.

I certainly agree that we need someone who has a good record of coaching at international level as well as a good understanding of the county game.  I worry that the stress of the job can lead to wellbeing issues for coaches but also impact negatively on the team.

JT had a lot of problems that brought his playing career to a premature end but I also suspect that the bunker mentality in the current England coaching team is a product of more than incompetence.

After the defeat by mighty Italy. If you think Baz is bad, just listen to Steve Borthwick in the post match interview.

Still can't believe Key has kept his job.  Not really sure what he does well.  Livingstone not a fan and Reece Topley even less of one.

As someone who has just left the England environment, what did he think of Liam Livingstone's comments about the management?

"I think Liam Livingstone has been a bit kind with his views on the England management; shall we leave it like that?" Topley says. "But I'm not surprised by what he said. The communication hasn't been great for me, either. But when you appoint a manager who has no experience of management, what do you expect?"

While this is clearly a barb aimed at Rob Key, Topley doesn't want to be drawn further. "He knows what I think," is all he'll say. "We have mutual friends, and out of respect to them, I don't want to say any more. But Livingstone isn't the only one thinking those things."

Being part of England management, must be the same as some manufacturing industries in times of full employment. You had to be a serial killer, before they would even consider, giving you, your cards.

Easy way out of this predicament was to offer both less money than they were on previously, then see if they wanted to stay.

Too expensive to sack for the ECB in my opinion.

Both will probably last most of their tenure's (end of 2027) or get sacked after a lost Ashes series next summer.

Agree with previous comments of Baz for white ball only, but ECB not changing now.

How Key stays after blatantly lying to the press over Brook's non discipline, oh wait ?30K fine and final warning slipped your mind Robert?

Hope he shows his face on the county circuit this season and gets some honest home truths!

There is a member of the ECB team, responsible for player identification. Are their duties to have a player stand in line with members of the public. A representative of the County game, has to then pick the player out.

Agree that they cannot afford to sack anyone atm.  Better warn the counties and they can get some more pies in.
