I get the point about the OS players, but lets be honest, like our Sri Lankan.....Amir was prob all we could afford.

The squad strength of teams like Hants, Slurry, Ciderset...compared to little ol' Essex is chalk/cheese. We're going nowhere in this compo for a while I think.

We look short in all areas but its the bowling that really lets us down, perhaps new coach Siddle will help, however that remains a distant hope?

Vince and Brevis have just got back from playing in the PSL and IPL respectively and they looked a class above anyone else. 6 of the Hampshire players haven't been playing in the Championship (only Albert, Prest, Dawson, Turner and Fuller have), while for Essex only Rossington, Amir and Benkenstein haven't been on the Championship treadmill.

It could be a long Blast season, but then if they beat Somerset tomorrow everything will look a lot better.

I suspect we'll struggle this season but we always lose at the Rose Bowl and we always lose home and away to Somerset aswell so 2 losses to start the competition looked likely before it started.

Is Cox still injured or away with the Lions?

That really was a piss poor performance, completely abject. Massive reliance on Pepper to get big runs - and he looked badly out of touch last night too.

Onwards and upwards...

Os batsmen win T20 games been said multiple seasons, yet we keep signing bowlers.

Bowlers can influence 4 overs batsmen in theory 20.

Yes our bowlings crap but 2 decent os bats you back yourself to chase whatever or score enough even with our dud bowlers we have a chance of defending.

But again, look at the budgets.  Basically, we just can't compete financially.

We lost Sams to Notts, prime example

Agree totally. You can argue that after just one match, Hampshire's OS batsman has already won more matches than our OS bowler will in 16 matches!
How many games will Amir win for us this season with his bowling?....I'll wager none!

Not sure they had a lot of choice.  They play Walter plus 3 seamers in the T20 side.  They only have 5 on the staff, one of which is Cook who is not going to be around for much of it.  Porter is 32 and has played all 7 matches in the CC and they'll want to rest him.  That just leaves Snater, Richards and Jones if they don't get an overseas seamer in.

The kids could do no worse than the senior bowlers in getting slaughtered tbh. Richards, Jones, thain, someone from the leagues on short term deals. Couldn't really do worse than our seamers in most games I'd wager.

Jones is away with Scotland I think (I like the look of him).

Richards couldn't get into the awful Kent side for his second game on loan (think he only bowled 9 overs in his first game?)

Richards and Thain regularly get smashed worse in 2nd T20 cricket.  Both have a tendency to bowl no balls aswell.

Worse than 10, 11, 12 and over?

Well get some dinners from the EAPL and EPL in then.other clubs do it.

Really we are clutching at straws with the frontline seamers and getting hammered may as well try something different and get some decent os bats in next time.

Hants would have known that Snater was the one most likely to break a key partnership,by getting (a ) top batsman/men out. They decided to try and hit him out of the attack and got away with it because we took the bait and took him off after  just the one over.
