AGM 2024
« on: December 02, 2024, 08:20:34 PM »
I see that only four applications were received for the Committee. Last year, we had three pages of Essex till I die, CVs.

That and, I have supported Essex, since they won something. Oops, I should not have said that.

The Annual General Meeting will take place at 7pm on Tuesday 17 December 2024 at The Cloud County Ground, and we look forward to welcoming you.

This will be an in-person only event, with attendees encouraged to arrive from 6:30pm at the Doug Insole Pavilion, where tea and coffee will be available.

No streaming for this event  ? How much does it cost to stream this event ?

A backward step by the club in showing a policy of transparency throughout the running of the club, to non local members who cannot attend .

And it was called at the shortest possible notice - meaning that I can't organise things to attend.,

A cynic might think they have deliberately called the meeting at short notice and just before Christmas because they have something to hide.

I couldn't possibly comment.

Anyone going to surreptitiously record it on their mobile?
I rather hope so

If there is any ulterior motive, it will backfire. Before anyone knows it, Essex will join Leicestershire by being able to hold a members' forum as house calls.

I'm guessing there is a huge financial loss to report for the previous year and they don't want many awkward questions.

Maybe.  When Stephenson was in charge he seemed very open about everything that was going on at the club.  He seemed pretty transparent and didn't avoid awkward questions.  There were a number of member forums and interviews on the clubs social media.  Since he's left that's all stopped.

Well forget the racism report costs/fines. In general, the price of everything it takes to run a business whether it be sports or otherwise continues to go up. You have further increased energy bills and various other overheads, now increased national insurance and minimum wage costs following the latest government budget. Yet Essex's revenue income essentially remains the same. There's no new and improved TV deal on the horizon to bump it up like you'd expect in football, lazy players continue to moan/campaign for less games which hurts the club further and a rotting Chelmsford provides zero 'non-cricketing revenue'.

A huge financial loss would be of no surprise, the club cannot sustainably operate in its current guise unless it either embraces private investment and/or Chelmsford is renovated/replaced/moved on from entirely. Everyone is scared to admit that, but it's a fact.

Having listened to the bloke supposedly now in charge on BBC Essex, he hardly inspires confidence. At least JS had the air of a leader about him.

If you attempt to criticise, there are a number of useful idiots. Who will be quick to slap you down.

I think we all have a good idea, who these are. A clue, you will not see them on this forum.

I've replied to say the same - I call it disenfranchisement.

A Zoom licence is not expensive - even a webinar would be fine so we could listen.

HUGE backward step and I'm not impressed.

I thought that all the Committee members were available for the members to speak to. John Stephenson found time to mingle with members and supporters.

Look round the member's enclosure and see how many new faces there are, over the last few years. Also, how many familiar faces are now missing?

One thing I have noticed, is in some areas. Members disappear and their friends, think so much of them that they are never mentioned again, in an Orwellian fashion.

Well looking at the accounts sent out to members, you were right. A massive loss, even after taking into effect a large insurance claim relating to COVID.

?750K loss is seriously worrying. I look forward to hearing how the club are going to deal with this.
Spoons will have his work cut out on recruitment, that's for sure. Can't see us splashing the cash on any bid star, even for T20.
