First original competition had 15 x 60 over matches. Red ball, white clothing .

Grand total of sixes in competition = 28.

Eng v Ind at Lords .
After Dennis Amiss (137), Keith Fletcher (68) and Chris Old (51) helped England amass 334/4 in 60 overs, India faced an uphill task. What followed was defensive cricket when the situation called for attack.

Gavaskar accumulated 36 runs as he stayed unbeaten after facing 174 balls. India managed 132/3, losing the game by 202 runs. Gundappa Viswanath top-scored with 37 off 59.

I can still remember the 1979 final between England and the West Indies and the opening stand of 129 in 38 overs (!) between Boycott and Brearley.

Keith Boyce was the stand out bowler in the 1975 final and Derek Pringle's father (Don) played for East Africa. I think Derek said that there isn't any surviving footage of his father bowling in that tournament. Graham Gooch played in the 1979 final. I stand to be corrected but I think he is the only English player to appear in three finals. I guess the Pringles may be the only father and son to have played in world cup tournaments for different teams?

Possibly. Sadly Pringle senior died a few weeks after the tournament and never got to see his sons first class and international career.

A very interesting biography of Don Pringle’s career can be seen here. The title is morbid but it covers his personal and cricketing career in depth.

Kevin Curran played for Zimbabwe in World Cups, Tom was in the last World Cup Squad but didnt play and Sam is playing now.  It would seem unlikely that there are many more.
