Middlesex at Lords today
« on: May 17, 2014, 06:02:15 PM »
What a great result for us today, a little easier than 1 over to spare would suggest, I did think we were in danger of letting it slip as we got slightly behind the clock but 16 off 3 balls from Ravi solved that. Mark batted splendidly for a career best T20, pity he didn't get a richly deserved ton but he captained us well, switching his bowlers around & ensuring that we finished comfortably in time for a change. Very impressed with the bowling of Ravi & Reece, Middlesex's spinners especially Patel bowled well but I felt Middlesex should have got around 190 so great credit to our bowlers.
A good friendly atmosphere existed & a highly enjoyable game, Well done Essex.

Watched it on SKY,  a skippers innings by Pettini, but needed Ravi to hold his nerve and see us home . A good team effort and first look at Ryder .

Couldn't watch because of a family occasion, in a place where O2's coverage was poor. Delighted to see the result, saddened by George Dobell's Cricinfo report, which talked about spot-betting, although made it clear that no-one was casting any aspersions at either Essex or Middlesex.

Also delighted to see the report, by on Cricinfo and here, about Pettini's contributions, both as captain and as opening batsman. I've always thought he'd come good again.

Great effort by the team, well done. Calm considered captaincy by MP, look what we have missed.

Did anyone catch Nasser's comment about RTD?  Evidently he asked his IPL team whether he could fly back for the match and was refused.  I can only think that this was because they don't have another drinks carrier of the same quality in their squad.

It's something to do with the speed with which he gets the drinks out to the middle I understand.

Very good win, excellent innings from Pettini, with good support from Ravi at the end. Fielding looked a bit below par, but a good comeback towards the end of the Middlesex innings that kept the target gettable. Well done all round.

He has been in the team for their last four matches.  He has only faced 1 ball in those matches as his team have chased in all of them and hasnt bowled much but he has been playing.

Didn't hear it mentioned yesterday but what is the new slang used by Sky this season - Batting Index for each player and WASP for probability of score and winning ??  I guess a form of strike rate and chances of winning using fancy terms but any help great fully appreciated!!

The batting index is strike rate  plus average, added together and anything around 150 or more is good.
It amused me that they kept on about how good Morgan is at T/20 but then mentioned that Cook had a higher batting index!
Wasp is a calculation of the par scores at that ground, along with the commentators estimate on how he pitch will play.
The WASP fluctuates depending on how the innings is going and in the 2nd innings gives a percentage of  which team is likely to win. - yes I know, it's rubbish!
What annoyed me more, some the information along the bottom of the screen was covered by the TENNIS logo and red button - so I couldn't see the bowlers figures - surly the loggo could have gone at the top of the screen.

Wasn't Wasp the handle of the "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"?
